you dont give much information. if you are a minor i suggest that you get your parents involved at once. if there are comments of a sexual nature then this should be reported to your local law enforcement agency. dont be embarrassed by what the person is saying to you, he/she has the problem, not you. by all means..DONT AGREE TO MEET WITH THE PERSON AND DONT GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION. on-line predators are a serious problem and the matter should not be taken lightly. good luck and be careful.

You didn't say where exactly this is occurring (MSN, IRC, etc), but there is such a thing as a "block list". I recommend using it, and/or otherwise just ignoring this person. Chances are, its just some guy looking for cheap laughs. However, if it starts to get any worse (he changes screen-names to harass you, starts into emails, phone calls) then start documenting everything and head to your local police.
Right now, I wouldn't worry, unless you have hard proof that its a guy who is over the age of 18 (or whatever the consent age between your two age groups is in your state/province) theres nothing you can do.
One last thing, if its MSN or IRC or whatever, head to the homepage and file an abuse report (there will be links on the page).

Block her and don't talk to her. You'll only be adding fuel to the fire if you dignify anything she says with a response. IF it is out of control, emailing, changing the screen name to continue to talk to you report it to Yahoo or whoever you IM through. Also if it would benefit you to save and print your conversations just in case she tries to turn the tables and accuse you of talking inappropriately to HER.

Are you sure it's not Chris Hansen?
Seriously. stop talking to the person. If someone talks inappropriately to me online I delete and/or block them. It's SO easy to not talk to someone online.

I think you should try and block contact with them- and perhaps copy their details and their communications and forward it to the police.
Failing that there are a number of pedophile hunting groups such as those found on a google search.

Stop talking to him/her. Its so simple. It maybe a detective- it maybe a predator- it may be another kid being weird. Who cares. Just stop talking to that person and if they won't leave you alone report them to a chat moderator.
