IF it is college town you are in, it is no big deal. I bartended through college and there was no problem. In fact, the owner liked the fact that I was a student...that way all my drunk friends would come in..although I seldom made them pay.

It's very common to find students working in a bar or pub.
If you even think you have drinking problem you might not want to do it. Go work in a restaurant or retail instead.
A lot of times working in a bar is great for a student because the hours work with their schedules and the trips can be really great.
Now if you have religious/moral convictions that would offended by people drinking, there lots of other jobs for you out there. Money isn't worth giving up your principles for.

just don't sip too much of Grandpa's cough syrup while you are working so close to it, and you should be OK. Responsible Student = Good Bartender, Alcoholic Party Student = Wrong Job For You. Hey Bartender, let me buy you a drink

you are going for an education, a job that would be helpful, pay well, and won't look bad on the resume when you graduate later. Haveing a bar as a job reference will get you kicked to the curb, don't want it on your anything while going thru life even.

Of course not Buddy.
You'd be surprised because most university students actually get jobs in bars and clubs and pubs when they are studying.
At least here in the UK anyway.
