Is it one of these or a mixture of some of these or all of these?I am trying to understand the need for religion. What drives it?In my experience everything that religious people describe as the reason why they believe, usually falls into one of these.

What really makes religion so influential? What is the main driving force?

Fear and gullibility.

That said, ALL your reasons have validity. Well thought out.

I believe there is a force out there that creates the universe; it could not just be the result of some explosion. I meant look at the human body it is perfect designed for what it does. Now this days people are watching the human’s body action to create the technology (cranes, hydraulics and so on…). Everything around could not be the result of some explosion it has been created. Somewhere inside everyone understands this and they sick for the force but the only thing they find at the end is religion that has been tolled by the parents, country, tribe nation or books and other surrounding things.

I believe that the religion has been created in order to have power and control over the population. If to take the history: some of the priests where having more money territory and power then the kings themselves. The Spanish inquisition killed more people then some wars do but for what for religion?
I don’t know haw about you guys but I will better stick with the nature’s forces then what people say.

The driving force behind my faith is this. I believe ( and yes you can question my beliefs) that there is more to this life than just existing as life forms that came into being without a purpose. I believe we are all here for a reason and that the one who put us here loves us with a love that we cannot fathom. I believe I have experienced this love. I believe His love is manifested in all who are loving and show compassion, charity , friendship and who are there to help you when you are down. These thing , are what I consider the proof that we have been made in His image.

Religion is not what drives me. All religious institutions have their flaws but at the same time they are not all wrong or bad either. Yes, people can turn to religion for all the wrong reasons ( like the 10 you listed) but true religion is to show compassion to those in distress and to be there to help them. Without love, religion is pointless.

No i do no longer concern God i admire him and serve him so i'd be extremely joyful with him in heaven because of the fact there is not any one in the international is familiar with what genuine happiness is. Why do you think of a marvelous type of wealthy typical people ended up committing suicide because of the fact there wa no longer something there they thought they might stay the dream yet there became no longer something to fill the empty hollow in there coronary heart. they'd locate peace or happiness. all and sundry fears dying extremely and God gave us all a prefer to stay or you will possibly see lots greater people committing suicide. it incredibly is my opinion i appreciate ever physique else's yet i visit constantly think of they're incorrect, yet isn't that the way it incredibly is with ever physique.

Traditional, family, culture, and emotional dependency.

However I think most people believe in religions because they REALLY want to believe there's actually a insurance for them. They want to believe that there's always one special friend or person they can turn to when everything else backfire. Take a long and hard look at people. How do you honestly think most of them would react if everything goes wrong for them? Do you think they would try to find a way to get their life back together or do you think they'll trick themselve into believe it's some kind of test and that it happen for a reason?

The fact that we all know in the depths of our hearts that there is a God. Religion has produced many misguided attempts to serve God, but that does not mean God is not real and the motivation behind religion is some form of weakness. I am confident (can't you tell), intelligent (I've got test scores to prove it), and can probably kick your ***, but I still believe in God.

None of them. It is the desire to have control over the masses. The indoctrination starts most time the second that you are born, and continues to the second that you die. The fact that you have this imaginary entity that no one has seen, heard or spoke with makes it very easy to twist peoples actions to suit the desired result. Jesus was just a man who was very gifted, but just man, non the less. His tomb has been found which proves that he was just a man.

Humans were created with a flesh body, a soul and a spirit. The spirit was created to worship God. It is the spirit that drives us to look for Him, often in the wrong places.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to God the Father except through Him.

My postulated answer is; it will be different for different people. For me it was a combination of sheer desperation, and the guidance that God had been giving me as He drew me to Him.

Unbelievable? Not to me!

Fear on the part of the sheep, desior for power on the part of the shepards. Hunger on the part of the wolves that want to make sure the sheep don't overthrow the shepards.
