Ok, I have a number of dogs in my life. I loved most of them, some more than others. We have a german shepherd. He will be 1 thursday. I am having a birthday party for him. I am making a doggy cake for him and pet cupcakes for our other two dogs and 3 cats. We get people cake, naturally. And we all get a bit of ice cream. And all of us (pets included) have party hats. He gets presents from everyone. Same thing I do for my kids. My husband is miffed. He says I have gone overboard. The party set it off. Jack has his own vest with his name on it. A coat and boots for winter. Baskets of bones and toys. A bed in his crate. I take him with me just about everywhere I go, when he can't he goes to the puppy spa. He eats what I do (just specially made for him, no salt, onions, etc....)This dog is more devoted me to than any person I have met. I wouldn't want that out of another human...Spooky. What is your thoughts? Do you think I have gone overboard as he says?

The only people coming are my husband, my kids, and myself. Our other 2 dogs that are normally outside and our 3 cats. Don't get offened by the other dogs being outside. They are pets but are true working dogs since we live on a farm.

okay, I think you have gone a bit overboard but if had my own dog I'm planning on paying $200 for a bed for it and $100 on doggie perfume. When I do spend that I will consider my self as going a tad overboard but hey it'll be my money and some people just don't get the pet spoiling thing and they just never will so just tell your husband that it's something he will never understand. If you can afford it why not?
Your pets are part of the family so they should be treated as part of the family. Your dog is just like an extra child.
Your dog is obviously very healthy with all the special food so I definately agree with giving him the human grade food and in the end it will actually save you money on vet bills.

The only thing I don't agree with is people spending money that their family is saving for something important like a new car or borrowing money for it. If you cannot afford it your dog just has to have the basics and a bit of extra TLC

You're only going overboard if you don't treat the other dogs the same on their b-days.You don't have to go to great lengths but a little extra attention on Christmas and b-days won't ruin them for life.
Working or not they deserve to be treated special too.Makes them truly feel they're appreciated.
Tell hubby to shut up and enjoy the party or be elsewhere. The dogs just as important in your life as he is after all.

If your husband is feeling neglected, yes, you are going overboard. If most invitees do not come to your party, you will know they think so too. If all come, then enjoy it.

No, dogs are better than people. Maybe the party hats are unecessary though.
