just make your intentions known, and even tell him. If you just tell him and make yourself known, you won't be confusing him or scaring him. Otherwise you will never know if he thinks the same thing and probably always wonder. And he could be very well wondering the same thing....

The direct approach, ask him. Or you bring it up to him as a calm conversation, a sort of "what-if" hypothetical question. Do it in a calm manner. If he likes you, it could escalate into a stronger conversation, but if he doesn't like you, then the conversation can stop right there with minimal embarrassment.

First of all just flirt and get to know him more. If he starts to flirt back then you could probably ask him, if not then probably leave it or ask one of your friends to find out for you.
