As a little kitten, he was very cuddly and would enjoy falling asleep in my arms or lap. Hes stilly a kitten, but hes older (over 4 months old) and now he usually struggles when i hold him and he doesnt really come in my lap as often. He still is cuddly sometimes but not as much. Has anyone experienced this? WHat is happening to my little baby?

He's growing up. My 6 month old kitten used to be the same way. Now he wants to do his own thing. If I'm lying down or something then he will jump on me and cuddle. When he gets tired of cuddling he goes down by my feet and falls asleep. It's just his way of saying "mommy I'm a big boy now and I don't want to cuddle as much".

I have 3 cats and I can tell you by experience that as kittens get older they get really mischevious, getting into things they shouldnt, knocking over stuff, running and playing.. hes getting older and wants to explore more things and dosnt want to be held down.. I have 2 kittens that are about the same age.. 7 -8 months old. My black kitten is really active and dosnt like to be held alot and will squirm his way out of my arms real quick..hes just your typical run of the mill strays that we took in from outside.. my other kitten is a cream point ragdoll and will sit in my lap all day long if i let him.. hes more laid back and has to be coaxed into playing sometimes.. thats typical for that breed tho, they are lazier then most cats.. he was sick a couple of weeks ago where he had a fever and didnt want to play or really eat.. he slept 24/7, i took him to the vet and $163 later and 2 antibiotics a day later, he was perked up and his old self again.. the vet said that he had gotten a virus from some of the fleas he had on him.. so if you dont think hes acting right.. take him to the vet and have him checked out.. if hes feeling hot or sleeping alot.. if not, i would tend to go with the factor that he is just getting older and wants to explore more... get into more trouble.. LoL

Kittens sleep a lot less as they grow older. At about this age most kittens have "stuff to do" and are very active. This means they're healthy. If a kitten of that age just sat around on your lap, it would not be normal.

Be prepared to get your little guy neutered at 6 months of age. That way he'll always act kitten-ish and won't get any disgusting habits like marking territory in the house.

Some cats, however, are just not lap cats. That doesn't mean you can't cuddle them pick them up. You might want to start talking to the cat before you pick it up, and then reach for it slowly. If you have to grab at the cat, he'll be afraid and that will get you the opposite result you want.

What you see with your kitten is sort of like you see with our children. They get to a certain age and it's "mom, puh-leez".

ok couple of things could be the problem. if you ever let the cat outsdeor tended by any one else it could get teased or abuseb by other animals or humans making it less freindly. (not saying thats your problwem its just a ver common one). second the cat could be going through reproductive changes at this point were you a happy teenager or have you meet people who were just grumpy teens? cats can be the same way. also if your not around that much and the cat has to fend for itself it ususaly doesnt get as close to you as if you were there all the time. some simple solutions, spoil it enough to get its attention again but little enough to know its getting spolied. (a treat realy isnt a treat unless its only every once in awhile). also when the cats vonarable dont try to just jump in and p[anic around it. stay calm slowly help the cat out. most animals are smart enough to think they are on the same standing as humans.

It could be the call of the wild if he's not neutered, even eating isn't important when the hot little Siamese from number 6 is calling so get that done first.

There are a couple of things you can do. Make sure he's fed you'll need to work out if he's sleepy before or after eating and that will determine when to do it, structure play around that. Interactive play is important, you need to engage him in play, he needs to see you're as exciting as anything else that's going on. This is important as you want to tire him out so all he wants is to sleep. When he's sleepy, that's your chance to cuddle. If he resists, he's not tired enough. Keep this up and eventually it should become a routine for him. Cats like kids (perhaps moreso) need routines, it helps them feel safe and happy.

It is very normal feline behaviour that your kitten is exhibiting. It's the same with human babies really. When we get older, we naturally show more individualized behaviour, i.e. we're not as cuddly and affectionate to our parents as compared with when we were still toddlers. Your kitten is merely growing up now. Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with him, and the fact that he still comes to you indicates that he still loves you. Just allow him the personal space he needs as an adult, as you do as an adult :)

His sex hormones may be kicking in. Time to get him neutered. If he is already neutered, then I think your kitty is simply not the lap-cat type (like one of my cats who is the apple of my eye). As he grows older, you'll find that he will have other ways of expressing his deep regard and love for you... he's just not a lap cat, is all.

He is just getting older. Learn to give him some space. He is a cat and he makes the rules. when he doesn come to you make it pleasant and don't smother him or he will be less likely to come to you again. Personally I on;y get about 15 mins of cuddle time a day! I have learned to live with it. LOL

He is getting older and just as kids they hug less and give less kisses and when they are teenagers the have no time for you. This will however get better as he gets older and quieter again. Cats just are a very independent species
