It is not uncommon for a person to drown in very shallow water, or to choke to death on their own vomit, when they get seriously drunk. Alcohol is a factor in more than half of all suicides, including my cousin Lewis a couple of years ago. Also a factor in almost a third of all traffic fatalities---and often it's the sober people that die, not the relaxed drunk. And lastly, you can overdose and die of alcohol poisoning. So, you ask me, why do I drink?
Good question. Because it usually feels good.

Definitely! That's how Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson died. He was drinking on his boat with some friends and went into the water (for some reason I don't recall) and never came up.

if you're drunk enough, yes. i once passed out face down in a mud puddle and had to have someone roll me over. Other times though, i've been fine by myself

yes, very much so.

when you are impaired, your mind and body don't cooperate anymore or not nearly as well as they normally would.

that would be why things like suicide are so successful under impaired conditions.
