Poisoning. Not necessarily intentional, but blood vomiting is indicative of the lining of the stomach being eaten away by stomach acids. Stomach acids becoming that strong are a body's final attempt to destroy the toxic substance. Could've been anything from antifreeze to bleach, most likely a man-made substance, though....animals seem to have a sixth sense for avoiding toxic plantlife.

Anyway, sorry about your loss. I've been through it more than once so I know how you're feeling. Hang in there.

Could also be a puncture from eating chicken bones or other sharp items. Eating a chicken bone (or even accidentally ingesting a nail or non food item) can cause a rip in the digestive tract which will cause internal bleeding.

Frequently, if the rip is high in the digestive tract, the animal will vomit blood. If it's bad enough for the animal to vomit blood, it will usually bleed to death fairly quickly.

Sorry.

The easiest way to try to find out why your dog died is to have had a necropsy done on the body instead of trying to guess after the fact.
