First of all, protect the nail bed as much as possible. Keep it clean and apply antibiotic ointment daily to ward off infection. Cover it with a light dressing before you put on your socks, and be careful not to bump it, etc. When it is no longer sore, leave it open to air and wear sandals at home. Don't go barefooted, though. Wear comfortable shoes to work, preferably one with a square toe with plenty of room in it. Prop your foot up on a footstool whenever you can. This will increase circulation to the lower extremity and thus your toe and hasten healing. It will take some time to completely grow back. Your nails, like your hair grow at approximately 1/2" per month or less. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

I've got a black lab and she looses the "casing" of her nails all the time i'd find them all over the place, on my steps that led to my room, on her love seat, on the floor but she never lost a acutal nail just the covering (like how snakes shed thier skin - thats the only way to explain it) if its the actual nail, and it doesnt get better in a cpl days I suggest taking her to a vet, its possiable she got it caught on somthing and it split and it'll heal its self, but Better to be safe then sorry
