YES, YES, you can.
Chocolate Cake Mix Brownies

1 chocolate cake mix
1/4 cup cooking oil
1/3 cup water
1 egg

Mix well, pour into 9 x 13 inch pan, bake at 350 degrees until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Here's a healthy alternative recipe for brownies from cake mix:

to a box of devil's food cake mix add:
1 can black beans (thoroughly mashed) OR 1 sm. can pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix; plain pumpkin)
2 egg whites

Mix thoroughly. Do not add any other ingredients. Cook according to package directions.

You can't taste either the beans of the pumpkin and it helps the mix become very thick and brownie-like.

I think this may be on the box somewhere, where they give alternate recipes. Try using one instead of two eggs, and you might want to also add extra liquid in the form of brown sugar or chocolate syrup, only about 1/4 cup. The oil can stay the same, unless you want to substitute butter or margarine, which would add flavor. Adding nuts or chocolate chips is optional. It will be easier to get out of the pan if you line it with wax paper or parchment paper. Bake at 375 for about 35-40 minutes. It should test as almost done if you stick a toothpick or knife in it: still kind of wet. If you overcook it, it will be kind of hard, but still ok. Let it sit for a while to finish setting up.

Nope can't use cake mix. The easiest and best brownie recipe is from the Moosewood Cookbook.
