I work and live at a mini-storage, and have been dealing with when it rains, I'm ankle high in water, and told the owner, but, the contractor won't come out till I tell him to call the owner. This has been going on for over 7 months, and most of my pay is to live here and I am starting to get so sick from all the black mold in the walls, and called him today, after calling my .dr..and my dr. said, we told you to get out of the place, it can kill you. I have twins in college and raised them on my own for over 18 years, and this has allowed them to go to college. I told the owner today about my dr. and people saying they were calling the health dept. not trying to threaten him but warn him, I'm sick, and I can't live like this, it needs fixxing, and he told me if I, or anyone, calls the health dept, I won't have a job.,but, everyone says it's a matter of your job or life, called a atny, @he said, he can't fire you, will make an excuse, get the dr. to say it, @he will take care of it??

the owner is breaking the law. Don't let him get away with this.

go to a lawyer... TODAY!

You have a serious lawsuit that you can file. A good lawyer will take your case on a contingency basis... meaning that you do not have to pay a retainer, and the lawyer will receive legal fees from the settlement.

The owner has assets that can be levied by the court to pay for the settlement. Any lawyer knows this.

Go to your doctor and get a sick note from them! Quite often employers are suspicious when employees are sick after a holiday, so a sick note should sort them out. Personally I don't think that you should go into work when you're ill as it's going to be a disaster for everyone else. I don't think they can actually sack you for being sick - i'd check your contract and see what it says about time of sick and all that. I got threatened once with that, even though I had mumps(!). Just threaten to take your employer to a tribunal - that should shut them up!

Hon you gotta get out of there. If it doesn't kill you it will leave you with health problems. The only thing that kills mold is bleach. Here's some directions:

I think the reason your boss threatened you is he isn't supposed to have anyone living there and he knows HE will get in trouble. It's not legal to have someone living in conditions like that. You cannot stay there. There must be another place to stay and another job somewhere. You don't want your kids to lose a parent or have to end up caring for a sick parent so get out ASAP! 7 months living in that crap will KILL you!

you need to call the labor department and file a complaint. Ask for notes and printouts from your doctor about your sickness from it. And take pictures as proof. Those are unhealthy living conditions and if they have been going on already for seven months like thi, you need to file a lawsuit once the health department comes out.

I would think that your health is more important then the job! If he has not done anything for seven months, I think it is time for you to find somewhere else to live and a good lawyer. Please get out of there, you will end up spending more money getting well then what you are getting in compensation! Take care of yourself - your boss isn't going to.
