I've never thought of it this way! This could be one way to rectify the audacity of biblical myths with the modern findings of science, though the former is of course imaginary. Still, it would be a step up from creationism and "young earth" nonsense.

I agree totally. For me, Gen. 1:1 tells the whole story. The rest is man's understanding of that story. I suggest that it is likely that God would have inspired the description to be written by telling Moses in such a way as you or I would explain the birds and the bees to a young child. You would not go into the scientific detail of ovum and sperm and how they came to exist and how they joined and how the cells divided etc. Instead you would use the K.I.S.S. principle and tell the child that Mommy and Daddy loved each other and because of that love, a baby grew in Mommy's tummy etc. Moses, although educated for his day was no scientific genius. Even the best of our scientists today do not comprehend exactly how things came to be.
I am a Christian but I base my beliefs on the two factors that seem to be logical. One, God created everything and Jesus was at least sent by God if not actually the physical son of the Holy Spirit. Either way, I believe he died for my sins. The rest is window dressing and is based on man's opinion of what they think God would want or what Jesus would have said etc. I've prayed about this for some time and feel very much at peace with my decision.

Interesting question.
The whole of the Old testament, especially the "five books of Moses" were precisely about parables and metaphors to stop the ancient Israelites from killing and sacrificing their own children to demon gods.
That is why Jesus and his apostles hated the old testament and wrote the gnostic gospels which reveal the true evil of the ancient Israelites.
By the way, ancient Israelites have nothing to do with Rabbinical Judaism which is an amazing and positive religion.
Of course to the High Priests who had Jesus executed, his teachings were a direct threat and that is why they created christianity in the first place- to destroy everything about Jesus!
Look today- good people are still doing the work of evil demons by defending the Vatican, St. Paul and cursing the memory and words of Jesus, while professing to love him. How perverse!

Colossians 1:15, 16 says that Jesus was in heaven with God when everything else was created and that he had a part in the creation of all things. Since he refers to incidents in Genesis as factual events, my guess is, these are not metaphorical. Remember, mens thoughts are not God's thoughts, so while you may think some things are ridiculous, the most loving and powerful person in the universe thinks they have enough merit to be recorded in his letter to each one of us!!

Well we know that story of Adam & Eve is not the word of God. Since it was written, mankind has learned that, if members of the same family produce children, they are always born with genetic defects including sterility. Therefore, the story of Adam & Eve is the word of man who had no idea as to what was going on. But, religions still insist that it's the word of God and the followers let them get away with it.

i assumed we all thought that way.
its an explanation as to spread the word so that the simple man can understand.
I always assumed that Adam represented semen and eve the ovum. How else could reproduction be explained to the people thousands of years ago?
We are told to accept it all literally, but obviously that's just a way to stop man thinking and rebelling against the "ridiculousness" of it all.

so far everyone has agreed, but how many of us are young earth creationists insisting Adam and Eve were real? They just won't give in for some insane reason. If they concede Adam and Eve, then its evolution and then clearly godless communism. This is good though, using the Bible to support your logic, like they try to to do.

It could be metaphors; it is certainly not truth. But the problem with metaphors is that they require interpretation. How can there be any assurance that Alan's interpretation is better than Bob's?
