I have two reasons that why it could be, one which is that I have flat feet and the other is that I have a sleeping nerve in my neck that causes pain. I really don't know what it is but I have had it for 3 years now.

Dear Al

Let's look at some neck pain facts:

Pain in the neck can be due to injury, a mechanical or muscular problem, a trapped nerve caused by a bulge in one of the discs between the vertebrae, or from arthritis of the neck.

If the pain is 'acute' - sudden and intense - it is called a crick in the neck, facet syndrome or muscular rheumatism.

If the pain has lasted more than three months, it is termed 'chronic' neck pain.

Many things can trigger neck pain. These include:
> trauma or injury
> worry and stress
> falling asleep in an awkward position
> prolonged use of a computer keyboard

In some cases, neck pain can be a symptom of head injury or disc trouble in the neck, if the pain travels to one of your eyes.

You NEED a chiropractor to make a diagnosis. Alternatively, go to your doctor to take an X-ray.

Don't think there's anything to do with fallen arches, but you should see a podiatrist for this problem. If any pain results from this, it will be on your legs, knees or hips.

^_^ good luck

I too used to suffer from neck pain very often. Now I take care not to strain it too much, mind my posture, have timely food and do regular neck exercises. Am perfectly ok.. You could try this. But also there are chances you have a migrane problem! Do check it out. Good luck.

What do you do during the day? Do you talk in the telephone a lot? Do you rest the telephone on your shoulder to talk or hold your head to one side while you are at the computer, in class or as you read? That is your neck pain then.

Please go get checked. This could be a vascular or other dangerous problem. Go to a clinic where there is a neurologist or go to an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) not an optometrist (checks eyes for glasses). Don't lift weights or over exert yourself until you get checked, please!

Push yourself away from your computer, (and get out of "Yahoo Answers"), and the pain will go away.
