If angels have no free will but are instead bound by the will of God, how did Lucifer rise against the throne? Moreover, how has he done anything that God didn't approve of? A fallen angel is still an angel.

For those who have asked me why I believe that angels have no free will.

I have looked up many sources, and they all agree on one thing... that they don't agree.

The basis of my belief in this context is that Lucifer launched his assault on the Throne over the fact that God loved man best eventhough the angels had come first. Part of his rationale for this was that God gave man the ability to choose to love or reject God.

I have included the most thorough of the sources that I have found.

An omnipotent God cannot create a morally free creature incapable of choosing evil. Thus angels and persons were created with the potential to sin.

Lucifer and his angel supporters sought to be like God. Their sin was the sin of pride, just as man's sin in Eden. Just because Lucifer was an angel does not absolve them from God's righteous justice. Unfortunately, for angels, there is no redemption, for they, with full knowledge, chose to reject God. This is the unforgiveable sin.

Firstly I would ask why do you say angels had no free will?

It is obvious from scripture that Lucifer had free will otherwise he could not have rebelled against God (I don't need to quote the scriptures here as you seem to know them).

On the same note a third of the angels went with him, so they were obviously exercising their free will in doing so.

In Islam Lucifer was not an angel but a jinn made out of fire and they have free will ,they where made way before humans. You can get your answers from the Quran.
Satan was high-ranked side by side with the angels and was there when everyone was told to bow infront of Adam. And he refused because he had a inferior complex and so on......

Lucifer was the worship leader. He got full of himself with pride because he was way high up there and was a leader. So what he did was start a rebellion, which is treason, so God could have destroyed him and his followers but instead cast him out. I don't know if they have a free will or not, but they were created to serve God. I don't know off hand where all the verses are.

I believe that the fall of Lucifer from his role as the leader of the musicians in Heaven was all a part of God's plan.
Remember that God had written your story LONG before you were born. He knows all that Lucifer has done, is doing, and is going to do.

The Bible is the history of life and the foretelling of what is to come, especially the books of Daniel and Revelation.
God allowed for Satan to torment Job, up to, but not including killing Job. Satan had to get permission, as you had agreed, before he could attack Job.
We know that Satan will have a BIG role in how Revelation plays out. BUT, in the end, GOD will reign supreme over Satan, and all his army.

I would look into Jewish traditions for anything that is supposed to occur prior to the birth of Christ. After that it gets kind of dicey due to Christian tampering. If I understand it correctly Christians are the first to treat Lucifer as truly fallen and as Gods enemy. I could be wrong, and my source could be wrong but it has been my understanding that in Jewish tradition Lucifers role was to test us,and to try and turn us around even when we failed.

Interesting question.

The Bible quotes lucifer as having raised himself up in pride against the will of God, particularly concerning the age of humanity. Therefore there has traditionally been a hatred of humanity by Lucifer due to us being part of his downfall.

That is why, the Treaty of Lucifer, the agreement by Satan to cease his ways and support the end of the war in heaven is such an important document.

First,Lucifer aka: 'The Devil',Satan,Shaitan,Beelzebub, etc.was not and is not a "Fallen Angel".A fallen angel is called a Neffillim, who came down to Earth and have relations with women, who gave birth to the giants among men of that time.Lucifer committed himself and his legions of followers(angels)to overthrowing G-D.The result as you know,Lucifer and company lost grandly, and were cast out, banished forevermore to the firey pit."Link"

There are two theories: 1) that angels had free will at one point and that is when Lucifer made his choice. And after the split in the angelic host that God "sealed" free will in Angels in essence "removing" free will from them. 2) that angels continue to have free will but have faced their "sin crisis" and their decision has been eternally made.
Paul wrote that we will "judge" angels. But he does not explain what it is we are to judge exactly. 1 Cor 6:3.
2 Peter 2:4 says God spared not the angels that sinned...
Jude verse 6 says that angels left their first estate....this is where the theory comes from that perhaps God has "sealed" their choice....and now angels are in their "second estate" or reality of existance - not having "free will."
Ps 103:20 says Bless the Lord ye his angels....in hearkening to the voice of His Word....here we get the theory that perhaps they still have free will because to "hearken" implies the possibility of "not hearkening."
Personally, I believe that the angels (in the matter of free will) are now like Christians who have made it to heaven from this life. There are things they can choose in exercising free will but the eternal decision has been "sealed" (they went through the crisis of their "first estate" and made their choice) in that sin will never again arise in them and that they want to do the Will of God in obedience. Just as Christians made their choice in this life for God - so angels made their choice when the crisis of sin came in their midst in their first estate. Now that the decision is made they have "crossed over" to a time when they are "sealed" from sin and "sealed" from the ability to choose sin. Just as Christians in heaven cannot sin and cannot choose sin because they are now eternally "sealed."
