my mom's trying to get a u.s. passport and she has her photos taken and everything already. she doesn't want to wait in long lines to get the actual passport and she says she heard somewhere that she could send in pictures online to get her passport. is this possible? if so, could you provide the website?

The passport bureau has been up to their armpits in applications since a passport is now required for air travel to Canada and Mexico and Carribean. The requirement applies to ground transportation at a later date. If you need a passport and your travel is imminent (within 21-30 days) an expedited passport can be obtained for an additional fee. This in effect moves your passport application to the head of the line and proof of travel is required.

i hate to have bad news, but I read in a news article that the passport office has been overwhelmed. she might be waiting no matter what she does.

I think it depends on the state that your mom applied, some state like NY,CA, they offer online and hard copy of photos too.
