I remember a while back that there was a woman in Texas Andrea Yates that drowned all five of her children in the bathtub because the devil told her to do it. Why would anyone do such a thing?
She had a history of post partum depression and mental illness every picture you saw of her with her kids she looked unhappy and miserable. Her husband knew things were not right and he insisted that his wife have as any children as the Lord would give them. How could someone kill thier own children?

I pray you will never know. It's clear she was ill. Everyone capable of being good to kids please volunteer to babysit for stressed parents, so they can get away to clear their heads once a week. It is necessary.

Andrea Yates was clearly very mentally ill when she committed these murders of her precious children. She was not taking medication and I think it likely that she was much more than just clinically depressed or suffering from post partum depression. I suspect she may have reached a point where she was hearing voices and was totally out of touch with realtiy. Her husband is not to blame, but he surely missed the obvious signs. Thank God we cannot even imagine the despair and anguish she must still be living through.

You just now heard about this? Where the heck do YOU live?

Anyway, you just said that she had a history of postpartum depression and mental illness. What's not to understand?

Mental instability can make someone do lots of crazy things. I had a friend who would do some very dangerous things (like having frivolous sex without a condom) on a regular basis because she's bi-polar. After these manic episodes, when her judgment wasn't so clouded, she would call me up and cry because she couldn't understand why she did the things she did. She finally went to the doctor and got some help.

To an outsider who doesn't have the proper information on mental illness, action like these don't make sense at all. I have an advantage though. I have depression, myself, so I can understand the complexity of mental illness.

Perhaps you should read some literature on the subject before you pass judgment. It's not easy living with mental illness.

Satan certainly had a successful day didn't he?

You answered it when you wrote, .."because the devil told her to do it."

She was suffering mentally and the devil jumped in there with both feet and took advantage of her while she was weak.

So, what is the result?

Five children dead.
One father deprived of seeing his beloved children grow up.
One husband deprived of the companionship of his wife.
One women, her life ruined because she will spend the rest of it behind bars. If she is lucky she will get treatment for her mental ailments, but she will always live with the memory of killing her children and may one day snap from the stress of it and kill herself.
One very big bunch of people asking, "How could God allow this to happen"?

Satan ruined what could have been a happy family all in a few minutes. And some people still refuse to believe he is alive and wreaking havoc in this world, destroying lives.

Well, the good news is, the five children were most likely too young to be held accountable for their sins so they are most likely saved!

IF the husband can stay close to God, forgive his wife and stay faithful to her, he has a good chance to be saved.

If the woman was truly "out of her mind" when satan tricked her God might find it in His mercy to forgive her as well and it would be grand if the whole family could one day be reunited!!!

That is God's call, but I have read that He is very merciful AND, He sees everything.

He knows things we have no way of knowing. I leave things like this up to Him, He is much smarter than I.

She was definitely mentally ill. Actually the way I heard it was that she knew she was being a bad Mother. So she figured( and this is the proof of her illness and inability to reason with a healthy mind) that they would grow up sinners and end up in hell as a result of her bad parenting. So she decided to kill them when they were still innocent so they would go to heaven. So many people beside her are also to blame for what happened. That woman should never have been left alone with those children.

Post Natal Depression (PND) or Post Partum Depression, is a horrible thing to suffer with. There are varying degrees of it and my case was quite mild - but yes it does exist and can be very extreme.

I feel for those children - It is a tragedy most definitely.

But you also have to wonder why this woman was not treated for PND? From experience there are not enough resources or help available to women who are sufferers.

No mother in the right mind will want to kill her own children. She is clearly not in right mental state.
