Yeah that is what I was about to say...master sgt at 23? Yeah.....thats not happening. And he lists his income at $250,000.....he has a pretty good imagination. Not sure who in the army might make 250,000 but I am pretty sure a 23 y/o is NOT. Wait, does the president even make that? If he does he doesnt make much more than that.
And he was in the battle of WHAT in 1998, or 1993...couldnt tell from the font. If he was in ANY battle in 1998, that would make him how old? 14?

Sorry, chica, he lies.

The rank of a MSG (master sergeant) in the US Army is represented by three chevrons and three rockers, with empty space in the middle... or as someone else already eloquently put it, "three-up, three-down, nothing in the middle". If your friend gets put in charge of a company, he'll become a 1SG, or First Sergeant... it's the same pay grade but has a hollow rhombus (commonly called a diamond) in the middle, to denote that person's company command status.

All said and done, though, I wouldn't sweat it *too* much if you can't find exactly the right picture of your friend's rank, although I'm sure there's enough MSG rank picture clips out there to pick from. I'm quite sure he'll appreciate any military-related clip art you post for him :) I might suggest a few other things, too, if you're interested... you might find out what his specific job or MOS is, find the insignia of that corps (quartermasters, military intelligence, medical, ordnance, artillery, infantry, and many others all have their own corps insignia, which is always worn on a Class A uniform). You might even try finding a picture of his unit's crest; it's the colorful crest that they pin on the blue flash of their berets, and is worn on the shoulders of their Class A coats. If his unit is too small or obscure to easily find a pic of his unit crest, you can always go for a picture of the brigade/division crest, of the brigade/division he belongs to--it's the large crest soldiers display on their shoulders, in normal everyday BDU/ACU uniform, and on their Class A coats.

Be as creative as you like, but as I said, I'm sure he'll appreciate all the effort and thought you're putting into this :)

No. The one with 3 stripes are for a sargeant. A MSGT has 3 up and 3 down.

It is impossible for a 23 year old to be a Master Sergeant (E-8 pay grade).

Your MySpace friend is lying.
