my son is gonna be 4 and he loves our comfy big sofa. he has never slept in a bed unless its my bed . he was in the crib until 2, after that ...sofa was his place. im happy cause he is independant on that level. he sleeps all alone rather than with me and daddy.

remedies... hunny there is no med to make your child sleep where they dont want to.

i watch nanny 911 and still dont understand how she gets the kids to fall asleep. i guess you have to have a routine and be consisted with both.

I sometimes have the same problem with my 3yr. If he takes a long nap late I'm in trouble. if he doesn't take the nap his horrible super active. can't make him take an early nap..have left him in his room for couple hours he will not sleep. If I wake him up from his nap he still will not sleep..If I let him cry to sleep at night he wakes up in the middle of the night crying and he comes to my bed. So this is what works for me I don't make him take naps ,keep him active take him for walks to the park. make sure he has a good dinner, bath time no latter than 7pm. I let him stay in there for as long as he wants..when his out he wants a Lil snack.brushes teeth. turn on the TV in his room close the door and minutes latter his gone(have to keep TV on) or else he wakes up then comes to my room crying. I know that's not good ,but he has been sleeping in his room for a while now.

I highly advise against making 4 and 2 yr olds sleep in a different room as you.

Sleep time is always a challenge--for every parent----knock off the sweets and soda early----do some fun activities--get exercize in the afternoon--tire them out---but you were a jkid and did the same stuff. Put them in their beds and explain that they have to stay there---crying is a control factor that they have acquired--next they will cry when they can't drive at 10 years old--you are the parent and in control--so do it !! No is No......they will learn and stop all the fuss when they see it gets them no where. Good luck

the best plan is consistancy and routine... if you let them stay up until 10:30 one night and want them to go to bed at 8:00 the next it won't work.

To get them to sleep faster make a routine...

This is mine...
dinner @ 6:00,
play time for 45 min (on their own or family style)
bath at 7:45
pj's & teeth brushing
pick out one book
in bed by 8:00
reading until 8:20
lights out by 8:30

Now, to get them to sleep in their own beds... i still have trouble keeping mine there in the middle of the night. I just walk them back to the bedroom and settle them down at 1 am... but to get them to fall asleep there at bed time i lay down with them while reading a book, turn off the lights and stay for a few minutes until they fall asleep... maybe it's not the best method, but it works for us.

the routine does work though... they need to know what is coming next. It might not work right away, but it will work... good luck!

Ask them to help decorate it, it may help give them a sense of possession and pride.

If that doesn't work then try a reward (not punishment) system for staying in their room.
Here's one:
Put three coins (or stickers) outside their door when you put them in bed, each time they get out they lose a coin, in the morning the coins left go in a jar, then at the end of the week they can buy a treat with it. (use stickers like coins, except put them on a chart with rewards for different amounts of stickers more stickers = better reward)

Alternate:
Give each girl 2 get out of bed coupons, if they get up they must come with a coupon and tell you want they want (drink, hug, kiss, within reason) When the coupons are gone then they may have a consequence for getting out of bed (less TV, something that can be carried out the next day)

Approach any idea with your girls, tell them about, be excited, get them excited and Good Luck!!!

try to share time in their room.make a routine sleeping time works like taking a shower ,reading a book or playing games in bed with them.I have 5.5 yrs old daughter and 1.5 yrs old son what I do is for my daughter I mostly read when she is in her bed with low light .when I had that problem she was 2.5 yrs old I painted a wall panel with her named the days open spaces for each night and told her when ever she sleeps in her room we will put a sticker in those places when she makes 7 nights she can have a toy or a book what ever she wants most.we had fun while doing that panel and putting stickers was fun to it took 2 months to solve that problem.

I have the same.. 4 and 2 yr olds that sleep "with" me. My 2 yr old sleeps in my bed.. but my 4 yr old sleeps in her toddler bed in my room. I think I've waited too long, especially for the 4 yr old. If you get a good answer, and it works, please send it on to me!!

GOOD LUCK!!

it will take about 4 nights to do this... get the child \proof doorknob thingies so they can't open their door in the middle of the nite & buy some earplugs for you....i bet after 2-4 nites of crying & fighting , they'll sleep. Worked for me. It's harsh but my sister with 6 kids told me to do it.
PS- do this when sleep isnt a issue with you.. maybe a weekend.
