I'm having my counter backsplash done in different colours of stone squares. Should I use 4" or 6"? Would a smaller square make the area look bigger? or smaller? Perhaps I could just break up all the squares and mix them up. Any suggestions from experience?

My father deals with decorating and has always suggested that larger (6" in your case) squares are better. They are easier to clean and give a cleaner, sleeker image and should make a room look larger. I wouldn't reccommend mixing the sizes up. It's completely upto your own personal preferences and how you want your room to look!! Good Luck! xox

i like the look of 2 rows of 4" squares personally, it's a richer feeling than 1 big one and 1 row of 4" doesn't cover enough.

bad idea to start with honey.
the amount of bacteria that gets trapped in backsplash areas, eugh.
bigger is better.
use a surface which is smooth and continuous.non porous too.
what looks cool at first can look greasy, grimy and crappy in a short time.sorry.
