Well I just happen to be a professional photographer. I shoot weddings as well as most other types of photography.
Some of what I use constantly is.
Nikon D2XS Digital SLR's
Nikon SB800 Flash's
Alien Bee's or Novatron studio lights.
Stroboframe 350 flash brackets "with sync cords"
I use Photo shop CS2 for adjusting the photos,
I use a pro photo lab for all printing.
And all of my equipment has a identical back up just in case something fails.
Good luck with your venture.

A Digital SLR, Reflectors, Umbrella Lights, External Flashes, Plus more. There's so much that goes into Studio photography. Just go on websites and look for those things- they'll be expensive- but a crucial investment. Websites for Photography training? Those can be rather inadequate, just try ' portrait snaps ' on your own, the best way to learn something is through personal experience. Books, and websites will just give you some techniques. Relax, you'll learn, Just go out, and shoot.

For heaven's sake DO NOT consider photographing weddings if you don't know what you are doing. They are notoriously difficult and you can so easily end up ruining someone's special day. Photography is not something you can just walk into, being someone who is not good at it. Find something else to do.

If you dont know about cameras you have little or no chance with maintaining a photography business. Its not as simple as taking pictures and going to walmart. Do some research. Preferably somewhere more creditable than yahoo answers.

Warning! Most professional photographers are not well off. It's a very tough profession with lots of competition.
