If that is the only word that comes to mind when someone asks how your food tastes?

Try having a thesarusas handy. You could look up other words that also mean puke. Such as vomit, or huck. 0.o

People can be squeamish if you say words of this kind at the dinner table, so better not use them if you're around sensitive folks. *Especially* if the person who cooked the food is at the table. There's nothing more painful than hearing that word being used to describe your cooking. If you don't like it, just push it away saying you aren't hungry or you have an allergic reaction to it or whatever.

No, it's not appropriate. Bodily functions of any kind are not proper at the dinner table, being talked about or done on purpose. And it's probably rude to the person who cooked your meal if you tell them the food they prepared tastes like vomit.

if you want people to think you were raised in a barn fine.
if you cant say something nice, shove a bit of food in your mouth, just smile (with your mouth closed) and nod.
