I know for myself and my family as a whole there is no contest--The Book of Mormon another testament of Jesus Christ. Because it is God's word uncorrupted by man and evil. It give so many examples that apply to us in this day and age even though it all took place many, many generations ago.
The Bible comes in at a close second. Because it is God's word after being thrashed and corrupted--in part--by evil men.
I also love the following books: Jesus the Christ, To draw closer to God and Preach my Gospel.

I'm going to pretend that you are honestly asking and not trolling. Trolling is so tedious and normally I'm pretty flippant with trolls. But I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and give you an honest answer. Bible or Book of Mormon (not "Mormons)-we read both! They do not contradict each other. They testify of each other. Ensign quote: This is correct. Without their transgression, they would have remained in a state of innocence and we, the human race, would not exist. While it is true that they introduced both sin and death into the world, this was necessary for mankind to fully experience mortality. We do not believe that we are punished for Adam's transgression. By that logic, mortality itself would be a punishment. We are allowed to CHOOSE sin or righteousness. However, human nature, being what it is, mankind sins. And mankind dies. Enter the need for a Saviour. By the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are saved both from our sins and from physical death. Brigham Young and the "Adam-God theory"...we do not teach that at this time. Why is it in the Journal of Discourses? I don't know. But I DO know that official Church position on it is that we do not believe that God the Father and Adam were/are the same individual. So your second point, I am completely in agreement. Adam and YHWH were NOT the same person.

I would most definitely say the Book of Mormon. Although it was written thousands of years ago, it can still help us out today. All the principles and lessons that can be learned then are still relevant today. This book of scripture was intended for US in these latter days. We should "liken scriptures unto us" (*scripture mastery!*) in this last dispensation. I have never gotten anything but good out of this book. Once you try to absorb an understand what you are reading, it seems like everything in it was written for you specifically. It does not matter what your dillema is, you can find peace in the Book of Mormon. I have also found the Docterine & Covenants to have the same effect. I know that these books are true.

I personally used the Bible and the Book of Mormon to use as my guide and to raise my children. I wanted to raise my children with a sense of love for man kind, love of their Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ. The wonderful parables, wars, stories of life were great teaching tools. These words taught them how to pray, love their neighbor, be honest, love and respect their family and self.
All my children are now grown adults, professionals, with beautiful children of their own. HUMM....I guess it worked because they all are using the same books my husband and I used. Don't criticize unless YOU try it first. The outcome has a pretty high percentage of SUCCESS!!

There may be good bits of wisdom in some 'self help books', but there are no (that I'm aware of) fully cohesive explanations of reality and how to live your life.

The ultimate self-help book I have ever known is the Bible. It has everything from finances to marriage councilling to positive mental attitude to spritiual guidance to personal work ethics to good and bad leadership qualities. In fact, most other books I have read over the years on this subject just rehashes what is in the Bible.

There are NO great(est) self-help books, at least those of spiritual advent, because all spiritual books seek to connect one up with the 'Other'...a helping, loving Other --- which disqualifies them as 'self' help books..
Many 'traditional' self-help books can assist people to do intra-therapy. Excluding the religious books, there are tons of them. On the other hand, my friends and I used to refer to self-help books as $4.95 lobotomies because a book is limited in communicating method.
In RL, I know many people who wound up more loopy in the head because they read a self-help book. It's similar to the person who sees the picture of Jesus on Mars, and then cops an attitude about reading the Bible and going to church, since Jesus to him/her is on Mars, not on Earth...
Here's a common example of a self-help book screwup -- the 'discover your inner child books'. People read 'em, discover there inner child, start behaving like idiots...and then stop.looking within themselves. Discovering one's inner child is just a means, not an end...because the innermost being of all of us is Divine Nature...the 'inner child of the inner child....
