In a nutshell:
best friends for 3 years, just recently found out we've liked each other the whole time but didn't know. feelings are mutual BUT decided not to risk everything now and have a relationship. Said he wanted a "long lasting real serious" one when the right time comes - not now.
He's HAPPY that we're best friends again because he said he can "talk to me about everything and anything again" and not like before where he didn't know what to do, say, and was more nervous around me. He mentioned (hinted) that beautiful girls intimedate boys and says that guys always check me out b/c i have "looks". He "fishes" for answers to see if i'm interested in anyone. He says, "would u get mad if i went out w. someone in a month, 2 months?" just to get my reaction - he responded, "if i ever break up with someone, at least you'll still always be here"
when i said, "everything's gonna be normal again - guys will be at me & you'll be the friend always there" - he sounded sad...

oh yeah and i think he's trying to get over me by talking to his old crushes (even though they are taken) because he knows i can bounce back easily with other guys...

he loves our history - turns out this whole time we've sercretly admired each other but never knew it...i think he wants to make more history with me...

He definitely likes you and i think you will be saved for his future gf. You will always be on his mind no matter which girl he's with. I think that the reason why he doesnt want to really get into a relationship with you yet is because he's afraid of jeopardizing your friendship with him. If you guys do end up breaking up, he's afraid you'll never be his friend again and it'd be awkward if you would stay friends after a break up. Dont worry, all he wants is to keep this friendship and dont want to ruin it. He feels a lot more comfortable with you being his friend for now because relationships are stressful and always bound to have problems.

in a nutshell: you are like so confused!
usually people who found out they like each other the whole time would be happy they found out about it now. and if you arent ready for a relationship, you can take it slow.. all that stuff.
all that talk about the other guys.. or the other girls... it seems to me.. that you guys may like each other... but not like each other enough to be together.. and though you may have looks... (flattering u here)... why the heck must he be openly dating anyone else? so what if you are the best friend- are you to tolerate that? its so weird!
just remain friends. and dont bring this up again.

Ask him. In any relationship trust and faith are necessary. If you can't trust him to give you an honest answer, then perhaps you don't have the kind of relationship you are looking for. Ask him what he wants and tell him what you want. Neither of you are mind readers. So communicate. Never hesitate to ask each other whatever you want to ask. After all, if you can't feel comfortable asking each other and talking to each other, why have an intimate relationship. If you just want to be friends, then that's different.

Why do friends think they can be lovers? It must make you feel good that you'll "always be there". Just like a peice of furniture.
