I got alot of great answers but some of you seem to think I've never been to church and tried to follow what the church said. I asked god to help me understand and read the bible twice. For crying out loud my brother is a preacher, I just can't pretend to believe somthing I don't believe. I am a good person I am married with 3 kids and I don't do anything to cause people to spew bible qoutes to me other than be honest about my feelings on the bible. I feel there is a god or a creator of some sort but what I do not know. I don't think we can understand it. If you didn't read my other Q sorry because they sort of go together. I just want an honest answer, Where do intelligent people get this overpowering knowledge from, If one more person says the bible I'm going to give up.

My original Q
Why do religious people attack me with bible versus?
I mean I have had that happen too many times. What do you say to them when they qoute scripture to you? I believe in god but I have doubts about the bible. I think it sort of contradicts itself in some ways. Instead of giving me real answers to my questions I get bible versus. That doesn't help cause it's like spewing forth garbage to me. You might as well qoute Dean Koontz for all the "truth" it brings. I also see alot of "your going to hell for that one" attitudes and I don't think they understand I don't want to hear it. I want to know how do you really know ?what underlying evidence or proof do you have to "know" this stuff. "I just know" isn't an answer either. People all feel there church is the right church. What brings on this exceptionally strong attitude? Is it because we are afraid that his is all there is or what?

Come to Jesus and let the holy spirit fill you and then you will understand the bible. NOT! Only kidding, haha.
Yes I too find it most annoying when people attack me with their bible viruses.

Dear Chrissy,
i think most Christians probably quote the Bible because it is the basis of their belief. i know at times Christians say read the Bible it has the answers to everything- but what the Bible contains is everything God wants us to know about Him.
i think for you- you have questions and you should have those questions answered. For myself i believe in the Bible because it is historically, archaeologically, scientifically, etc. true. i have also found it to be true in my personal experience (everything that the Bible has promised me has been true)... i've found forgiveness, the power to love people i didn't love before i knew Jesus, and joy and peace during times when it didn't make sense to have those things.
i guess the thing for you right now is to have your doubts and questions answered, and not be made to feel as if you are some "terrible" person for having questions and doubts. For myself i am a rather "inquisitive" and "searching" person- and my personal experience is that God has answered every single one of my doubts, but i've gone about trusting God as i searched out the answers to these doubts- and have had some great people along the way to help me.
i don't know how much i can offer you but will gladly try. I'm a youth pastor as well (so i'm sure you get Bible verses galore from your brother and everyone else) so i'll do my best to not just throw bible verses in your face.
Most certainly i think that are aspects of God we can not understand... I've to say more than anything the Bible has shown me God's heart and how i can love like Christ does (but i think at this point- you really just need to have your doubts and questions about God and realted topics answered and i'd be glad to do my part to help).
Kindly,
Nickster

FYI: Good people don't make it to heaven on their own goodness. Christians aren't thumping the Bible over your head, they just want you to know where their ans are coming from (truth, not just their own thoughts). You can ask ques and state no bible verses, so people will know. I'm sorry for you that you cannot understand the bible. It's the Holy Spirit that gives you the understanding because we humans are limited. It's the relationship with Jesus as Savior and Master of your life that changes us into a new creation and gives us the Faith. If you lack faith, ask Jesus to come into your heart. People that have faith, love and joy just want to share it with you. Don't take offense because people care about you! You are not attacked, you are loved! See, I didn't use bible verses.

Hon, you are going into a long story when you need to clearly ask your question. I think you are asking "Why do people attack me with Bible VERSES when I question the veracity of its contents?" Is this correct? All I can tell you on that is, don't get into those conversations with those people. That is how they work. Find someone better versed in instruction since I gather you are trying to UNDERSTAND the word of God instead of giving up on it. May I suggest Catholic catechism class. They do not use the Bible to instruct from since the Bible is way too overpowering for the learner.

There are a lot of people who have this really stupid idea that quoting the right verse to others will make everything okay.
The problem is that they quite often make the person feel worse, uncared for or like it is all their own fault.
Realistically I think that if they haven't taken the time to really listen to you and understand where you are coming from then they obviously don't care and just want to give you a band-aid solution.
Basically Insensitivity or laziness.

That's why I always try to answer atheists'/agnostics' questions without hammering with the Bible verses. Usually I can back myself up with logic (I may have to lightly touch on Bible verses to make my point understood, but I try to use them as a lantern, not a club).
Anyway, there's my $0.02

What was your question about the Bible. feel free to contact me. I just give honest answers if people ask honest questions.
It may take quite a while to get back to you (maybe a week, I travel frequently with my job); but, I will, if you send me your question.

Those people are uneducated about science and psychology. Human beings act the way they do because they evolved to do so. If you think everything is perfect, you are wrong. We are still evolving and working out the kinks. Unfortunately I think the human race will die out before we become good people. That must mean there is no great image that we are made from. Just tell them to f*ck off and go to college to learn some information that has been proven over and over to be correct. That's how you become a better person, educate yourself on how to save this d*mn planet from mass destruction.

You have to realize youre asking people tostep outside of a box that they literally cannot survive in. They quote verses because it is all they know and cant stop because they are just that unfamiliar with thinking outside of their programmed bs. What you should ask yourself is why do you care what a group of close minded simpletons think in the first place?

Years ago, my mother gave me a bullet...a bullet, and I put it in my breast pocket. Two years after that, I was walking down the street, when a beserk evangelist heaved a Gideon bible out a hotel room window, hitting me in the chest. Bible would have gone through my heart if it wasn't for the bullet.

Those who attack you with bible verses are those who are insecure about their own religion, they need to have something to show it is god's word not their word. If it is god's word, it will be right, and hence you cannot say it is wrong .... unfortunately this is their thinking.
