You must realize there are two parts to the asvab. The first is the AFQT (Armed Forces Qualifying Test), this is comprised of two math and two english sections. This is the part that really matters. It determines whether or not you can get in the military, what branches you can get into, and with the coast guard it determines if you qualify for a guaranteed A school/guaranteed first district. I highly reccomend buying Barrons study guide and targeting your trouble areas.
I studied with that guide and got a 90 (out of 99) on my AFQT. The other 5 parts of the test determine which jobs you qualify for. It is good to look over the study material on these sections but don't go crazy, you either know the stuff or you don't.

The ASVAB is ridiculously easy... although with some the horrible scores a lot of recruits get, you'd think it was a hard test. It isn't though, not at all. It tests different areas of ability, and is meant to help you and your recruiter decide which jobs might be best suited for you, based on what you scored best in. The higher you score, the more choices you'll have--not only with the job you choose, but often with your station-of-choice. The GT score is generally seen as one of the more overall important parts of the test, partly because it helps determine your eligibility for certain military education later on, as well as OCS and Warrant school, among other things. The overall average score for the whole test goes up to 99, which is usually what people are referring to when they talk about their ASVAB score; when I enlisted, they cut off recruits who scored below a 32, which itself is almost unimaginably low--and they recently introduced a waiver to allow a certain number of people every year who score as low as 18. Believe me--if you possess at least as many brain cells as you have fingers, you're in little danger of scoring below 32! If you're still worried and want to give yourself the best chances, there are plenty of ASVAB study guides and practice tests available at almost any bookstore... I know that both Borders and Barnes & Noble sell them, in their Study Guides sections. Ultimately, once you're in, the ASVAB plays very little importance... GT scores might help with a few things, but they place far more importance on more dubious tests, such as the PT test, which has far more impact on your career and your advancement than anything the ASVAB could do to you. Case in point--if you're a good runner (or swimmer, in the Coast Guard), people will think you're God on Earth. They won't even care what your ASVAB score was.

as brendon says, its pretty easy, but if you are worried and want to see how the test will go, there is a book called asvab for dummies, no offense meant here, i bought it and studied it and took some of the tests, I scored extremely well, also the recruiter has a pretest on his computer for you to take, ask him to let you take it, its about a half an hour long, and he will tell you your score right away, and tell you where you need to study up on also, good testing

As already stated, someone who used to be ready to graduate top university with bigger than Cs must be ready to get a reasonable unfold of jobs, allow by myself 'simply qualify'. If you took the ACT or SAT at any factor, it is approximately on par with the ones, truthfully less complicated in my individual opinion -- the maths is not more tricky than elementary algebra and geometry.

Not at all. If you have a general high school diploma, you will do fine.
The specific areas can be tough though... like when I took it in the 80s there was a whole section on identifying tools... I was like WTH... flunked that part. LOL but still scored high enough to get into Intel School...
Good luck btw

if it's anything like the practice test i took today and scored a 76 on, then no. Simple things that anyone who paid any attention in high school can score well on.
