All of these answers are great...with some being super funny! We did make sure the house is secure now...it's 103 years old...so it's not built on a concrete foundation. It is really hard for someone to fit under there. I thought we had it sealed up in January. It's just now for the past 3 weeks been stinking. Maybe cats are still getting under there???

Get a couple bags of powdered lime from the hardware store.and scatter it all over the underside of your house. This is what proffesional plumbers use to get rid of raw sewage that leaks from bad sewer pipes under a house .use rubber gloves. The smell will disapear almost immediately .The lime removes all moisture and chemically breaks down the waste. If the cats are still getting under you house pour a large can of fine ground cayenne pepper all over where there getting in at.They wont go near it.

Hi there. This is tough. Is the smell permeating into your house? I was curious as to whether an animal has died under the house because the smell is so strong. Most cats bury their excrement and do not relish in the smell of their own waste. Many will not use a cat box if it is overly used and full. Call around town and get the lowest price for an exterminator to crawl under there, investigate, and remove the offending matter. Deodorizers work only temporarily and with no direct sun, composition will take months. Some local shelters will either lend you a humane cat trap or the cost is pretty cheap if you are certain this is the problem. There are many feral cat programs that will fix the cats and put them back into the population to control their numbers for free. I have a feeling this is a slow decomposition of an animal. I think you will get to the bottom of this and things will improve.

The first thing you need to do is remove the old waste. It's a gross job, but the smell will remain for over a month if you don't. Lay baking soda on the ground to remove residual smells. Then you need to do something to prevent cats from getting under there again.

Orange peels are a great trick. When you eat an orange, toss the peels under the house. This stops spraying. Cats can't smell over the high citrus smell, so won't waste time there.

Then fence off the area under the house so that cats can no longer get under there.

First of all I would try and get rid of it - many cats return to the same place to go to the toilet.
Can you access the area under the house?
It should only take a few days for it to dry out and the smell to start to disappear (depending on the climate you live in).
Cats usually bury their waste so you can't smell it at all. You sure it is cat poo? Cats are also solitary animals and usually will not toilet where other cats do.

You say you thought you had the area sealed up, a while ago? Are you sure you didnt seal in a cat, that's just now starting to decompose?? Is it just warming up where you are? If it's just poop under there, then only time will lessen the smell, unless you get under there and rake it out: YUK. Actually, check out the hardware places, cos I think if you spread some lime under there, it should do the trick.

You may have a racoon problem - Do you know its cats for sure?? Racoons love to nest under houses especially during the winter months. Their feces has a very stong odour and requires a mask and rubber gloves to clean up due to a deadly virus they can carry in their droppings. The best way I have found to sanitize the area after the cleanup is to spray with bleach. It is harsh but it kills any viruses on contact. Then I do suggest using chicken wire to fence the area off so that they can no longer get in.

If it is cats, again, clean up the area. Moth balls work great as a repellant. As well you can get a powder that your sprinkle around made of hot peppers that also repells cats, racoons, skunks, dogs, etc.

Hope this helps!

Go to your local Co-Op and buy enough lime (a white powder) to spread all under your house.
This will get the smell way down and out in faily short order if you can keep out the crapping cats.

i would just build alot of wooden woods or even use a large long flat boards to use outside under the house to keep the cats out from there . so that they cant even go under youre house anymore.

It will take A WHILE! What do you mean under the house? If its outside u can try using a hose to "blow" it out... u can also throw backing soda on it... add additional details!
