I found a kitten in my building a few days ago, when i found her, one of her eyes had a discharge, light yellow. I cleaned her up, put some antibiotic salve on them, she seemed to be fine. Tonight, she was in the bed with me and was coughing. I picked her up and she stopped. She sneezes every now & then, but not0 to often. She is eating & drinking really good.
She is really hyper and full of life. No fever that I know of.
Is this just a cold? or something worse?
I'm not for sure of her age, I'm guessing 5-6 weeks. I have some amoxicillin here for kittens but I don't know if that would be a good idea.

Kittens are very prone to respiratory problems and it can be serious. Since you found her you don't know whether she's had any shots. If she goes off food or more importantly water take her in right away. If she has a lot of discharge from her nose gently wipe it away. Illness can progress rapidly in cats so keep an eye on her. Cat flu can kill a kitten so if anything gets worse take her to the vet to be sure she gets proper treatment. Don't treat her yourself since kittens are so small the dosage can be critical. I hope she gets better fast!

Oh! Be sure and have her spayed for her own safety. When a cat goes into heat ALL the males can tell and if she gets out where they can get to her she could be exposed to anything - feline leukemia, FIV etc - from un neutered males.

Cats do get colds. The problem with a cat/kitten having a cold is that it leads to a secondary infection like pneumonia.Antibiotics probaly would be good for the kitten but of course you should not give the kitten any medicine without a vets approval.

I'm not really worried about the sneezing, it's a cat thing. My cats always sneeze and they are as healthy as could be, but the coughting and the discharge are a bit upsetting. I guess you brought her to the vet if you have some drugs, but I would take her back. The coughing makes me think it might be a need for cortizone. I had that with a cat once. Also, she is way too young to be away from her mother, so check with the vet what you should be doing to help her as she obviously wasn't weened correctly from her mother.

You did a great first step in taking the kitten in but her care goes further that a good drink and a bowl of food. She's in need of a visit to a vet. She may be coming down with distemper. If she gets her shots and it's "late in the stage" you could still lose her. So let's get her to the vet. A first visit should cost you about 40.00.

my kitten just had the same thing, bring the kitten to the vet just to be sure. They will give you some eye stuff and more amoxicillin. The discharge can cause problems if its not taken care of. Plus if you have other cats it can spread it to them.

Get the kitty to the vet. The coughing & sneezing may be nothing, but then again it may be something you want to take care of right now.The kitty is just a baby and she has an immune system that really isn't giving her much defense to infections right now.

maybe you should close the window if it s open. also you should use some thing to keep the kitten like a small blanket that can use when she sleeps or you can ley her crawl under youre blanket instead . but i would take her to the veteriarian clinic so that the doctor can check her out if she caught a bad cold i would keep her warm every night then. gave her a warm not hot but just between warm and little cold water to drink of .

At that age she is very vulnerable to any viruses that r around. If it is a virus she is suffering from, antibiotics will do nothing to get rid of it. Please take her to the vet a.s.a.p. Cat viruses can be fatal, especially in a kitten so young.

stray kittens are subject to a number of upper respiratory problems, sometimes the mother is also sick. The kitty needs to be checked out by a Vet, and begin immunizations to keep her well. How kind of you to rescue this little one, please get her to the cat doctor

Probably an upper respitory infection. Does the kitty have a dry nose? Thats a good sign. Should probably be on antibiotics so she doesn't get more sick!
