Try eating food instead of magazines!! Just a quip that might cause a laugh during your debate. Magazines are the source of many impressions that may guide human behaviour in the wrong direction. Most of the models are skinny, the adverts for slimming products show pretty young girls, indicating that they have lost weight, yet probably have never been an ounce over-weight in their short lives. It is the inference, the hidden meaning of the presentation that causes the problem rather than anything that is actually written. The visual impressions are what induce people to change eating habits and a self-induction of eating disorders.
Hope this helps.

I think magazines play a part in eating disorders by glorifying very thin people. TV also plays a part, and movies. Even for people with many years experience it can be difficult to override the message coming from the media about our appearance. It must be much harder for younger people.

Yes to a degree but eating disorders can be caused through low self esteem, depression, magazines may help trigger something that is already there.

I believe it does and it also promotes unhealthy weight loss... have you ever heard how some models loose weight... they fast alot of times and I even heard once that they eat cottonballs soaked in juice to curb their appetite... we need more guys out there stating their opinion that they like curves :) or at least I hope alot do!

You bet. I saw a video on youtube where they had a good looking model and showed how they made her look good. They used photoshop to do it! That was so shocking! Young girls unfortunately are looking up to those skimpy models for their role models unfortunately and they are willing to go any distance to achieve it. Are western women liberated or oppressed?
