If you feel he is the right person for you, then there is no need to forget him, but if you know that he is wrong for you and he has made your life less then enjoyable, then your best to ask him to leave you alone. Put your energy into your work, and doing kind things for other people. Maybe volunteer working in a woman's shelter. It is always a great feeling to do something life changing for someone, and it will be a good reminder why you left him. Maybe he did not beat you, but he could have been doing emotional abuse. That is something that happens in some relationships, and before you know what is happening you are in love with a person that is making your life miserable, and using words to hurt you. This is also a form of abuse. If you work as a volunteer in a womans shelter you will always be reminded that it could have been you in this situation. It will give you the strength to leave and not look back. It will also give you the wonderful self value of doing something really good for someone else. Often when you do that you forget your own issues, and problems and I think that you will find it easier to move on and forget him. Love is a powerful thing, but don't let him use making you feel guilty to get you back. He will be able to live without you and do NOT let him into guilting you into going back! You and your feelings are more important than to sacrafice them to make someone else happy. maybe you need to explain the situation some more. if he wants you back why are you trying to 4get him, did he do something wrong?
