I would drain the pasta, then pour the sauce onto the pasta and cook them together. That way, the pasta soaks up the flavor of your sauce. :)

Boil the pasta in salted water ... extra al dente (not quite done) ... then add the pasta to the sauce to coat and finish the last bit of cooking. (Add a little of the pasta water to the sauce ... it improves the texture of the sauce since this water contains some starch cooked out of the pasta ... but remember that it will also be adding some extra salt so don't add too much salt when you make the sauce. Correct the seasoning just before serving.)

By the way ... the point of adding oil to the pasta water is to keep foam on the top of the boiling water under control, and reduce the possibility of boil over. Contrary to common myth; it really has no effect on the pasta itself.

Pasta is always cooked separately and then added to the sauce depending what you are making. Usually people like to put the sauce over the pasta. Usually creamy sauces are mixed together with the cooked pasta.

Cook the sauce. Cook the pasta in a separate pan and then drain according to the instructions until al dente. Return pasta to the pan and add the sauce to the pasta and mix well.

I cook the pasta and sauce separately. When the pasta is cooked I drain it, return to the saucepan (medium heat) and add the sauce to the pasta. Mix it through for a couple of minutes and enjoy!
Do not add oil to cook the pasta or the sauce will not be able to stick to it.

You cook the sauce seperatly and cook the pasta seperatly. When both are ready and pasta is drained. Either keep them seperate and add desired amount of sauce on pasta right prior to eating or mix everything together. Either way works. When i make one i keep them seperate and if i have some left over after dinner i mix them up.

After you boild the pasta rinse it with cold water then add enough of the sauce to keep the pasta wet. Serve at table sauce with additional sauce on the side or pour it over the pasta beforehand. Top with some fresh chopped basil and grated parmesean.

Cook pasta separately & remove from flame, when its almost done. Heat the sauce on a medium flame & add chopped ingredients like mushrooms, onions, red chilly flakes, garlic, green peppers, oregano & a pinch of salt to enhance the flavour. Stir for a few minutes, add the 'almost done pasta' and simmer together in a vessel with the lid closed. Cooking together in the end gives a good flavour & you can dress it up with shredded cheese.

Serve them separately.
If you mix the sauce and the pasta and then cook them together your pasta will start to get mushy and too soft.
But of course, it all comes down to personal preference.

seperate. Cook the pasta in water, then add sauce when it's done and drained.
