We are in the process of purchasing a brand-new home that will need window treatments. We are looking for something that can be opened during the day and something private at night. I personally would like to buy blinds, but know from experience that my fat cat will crawl through the sides and bend them. He doesn't chew on them or anything, just likes to squeeze through so he can sit and look out the window. And I'm not sure that I could make drapes look good. Would the faux wood blinds be tough enough? Anyone have any ideas for cat-proof window treatments? Thanks!

Being that I have always had a cat that killed my blinds - I have roller shades underneath roman shades. The rollers are good backers for the privacy factor. I think I would be worried that the cat could get stuck in the wood blinds.

I would say try to keep the cat out of the windows, first off...(a full squirt bottle & good aim learns them pretty quick, in my opinion) But otherwise, I would try the vertical blinds, as opposed to the horizonal ones. They are more often than not much bigger than the horizontals & hold up to alot more punishment, plus, they are easier to clean. Hope this helps!

This is why I got rid of my blinds. I got tired of having to replace them because of my cat. I bought old fashioned roller shades. The newer ones are really nice. They have different fabrics, colors, scalloped edges, fringe. And they can make them to fit your windows. I got mine from seventhavenue.com.
