Well, I don't know the physiological workings of aloe vera specifically (as in how it does what it does), but when applied to sunburns and cuts, it makes any irritation decrease slightly. There are other (often better) ways to do this, though.

it makes the skin feel less irritated and smoothes it.it is a natural antibiotic
