If you read only the Bible, you'll never understand the Bible.
To understand the Bible, you need to understand the history of the poeple and their language.
What is "the needle's eye"? Does the Bible tell you, or do you assume a small pointed object used for passing thread through fabric? If you assume a sewing needle, you're wrong, but the Bible alone won't tell you this.
If you expect to survive in the world, you need more than a Bible. A Bible won't tell you how to drive a car, or what the rules of the road are. It won't tell you how to use a computer. You'll miss out on Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Salinger, Camus and so much more. Fortunately, it's now possible to use a computer without books.
You do have one big problem though.... you're reading this, and it's not the Bible.

Yes, there are many books in the world. Some are good and speak of great things and kind deeds and everything that the Bible also speaks about. Others however talk of dark things and things that God would not approve of at all. As you grow, you will most likely get out in the world more and you will have the opportunity to meet other people and hear different views. Some people will be kind, others not so kind. Some will be honest, others not so honest. Some will try to talk you into their way of believing. Many on this site are people who do not believe in God or who hate God. When you read their answers, don't allow their venom to change your thinking. Wait, think, pray about it first. God will lead you in the right direction. The world is a very sinful place and although I know your parents are trying to protect you from having contact with sinners, you will eventually need to know how to handle them. My only suggestion is: Don't believe everything you hear or see on the internet. A lot of scams going on.

Get a new pastor. Anyone who tells you not to read anything but the Bible is dangerous.

Assuming you are serious, the world is full of books. Many great Christian saints and philosophers have written books. There are good books and bad books and God gives us the wisdom to decide which are which for ourselves. Your pastor sounds as frightened & narrow-minded as the Pharisees who wanted Jesus silenced.

Some people who don't believe in God get on here and trash Christians and our beliefs. Why are you purposely trying to anger God, pretending to be someone that you are obviously not? He knows you.

No the bible is not “only a book”! Actually it’s one of the best collections of mythology we have. Well it’s not quite as good as the Greek to be sure but it’s still superb. I wish people would stop calling it “just a book”. Your uncle did well to let you come here, you’ll learn much at this place.

It Depends. He was probably talking about books that contradict. Like Athiestic garbage, Evolution monkey crap, and fraud scholars and money hungry scientists. Anything that DENIES God is bad.

Yes, you can read other books. Please....read other books. There are many out there. There are libraries filled with literature by many wonderful writers.
Actually, I think they are referring to other religious texts: the Koran, Torah, etc. It is up to you to read these books. I personally would recommend it, since it never hurts to know what else is out there. If God exists, he is not going to punish you for using the brain he gave you.
