I can't stop popping my neck. And when I pop it it hurts but afterward it feels better. I just turn my head and it pops. I am not forcing it. Can anyone tell me if I am in danger of hurting myself really bad and if anyone knows how to stop popping my neck then please tell me because I am only 14. I don't think it is normal. Please help me.
Thank you

also if you know what might have caused this I would like to know that way I can try and aviod it. I don't know I am really confused and my mom and dad don't want to take me to the doctor and my school nurse doesn't know what to do about it either.

You have a herniated vertebrae (bad disc) in your cervical (neck) spine. It feels better after you pop it because you are relieving the pressure off the nerve it is pressing against.

It is possible you could cause permanent paralysis from popping your neck.

Your need to see a Neurologist or an Orthopedic Doctor to get an MRI performed. Usually neck surgery is the only way to correct this problem.

Going to a Chiropractor will not help considering they will only do what you can do (popping your neck is just realigning your cervical spine).

Furthermore, it sounds like you could also use some counseling to help with your uncontrollable impulse "I can't stop popping my neck". I would either talk to my parents or a school counselor to get some help.

GOOD LUCK!

My chiropractor yelled at me for doing this. He said he knew 3 people who paralyzed themselves by doing this. I'm not paralyzed yet, but I think you need to just keep a closer eye on yourself to keep from doing it and maybe only do it if it really hurts

Perhaps see a chiropractor yourself and they could give you an adjustment and help you out.

if you are turning your neck and it just pops then chances are you have a slipped disc. it is common and usually stays with you unless you go to have surgery done. i have that problem with my back and neck and so does my 14 yr old son. the only difference is we dont hurt when ours pops. we just feel better
