I tried shaving/cutting it but it did'nt work. Is there anything safe I could put on it to soften it up?

Try common vegetable oil. This works for removing animals or shoes from glueboard mouse traps. Im sure it would work with your sticky substance. There is also a commercial product called goo gone. You can buy it at W@lmart. Might want to check if its ok for animals tho. It is supposed to get rid of anything sticky.

If it's pine gum, the only thing that will remove it is methyl hydrate. Look for it in a hardware or paint store. Be careful, it's flammable, but safe to use on skin. Soak the gummy area to loosen it, then wash well with soap and water.

I had a cocker sit in a puddle of pine gum on our 17 th wedding anniversary. I guess you know how we spent the day! The vet recommended the methyl hydrate, or we would be there yet!

Go to an experienced dog groomer and have them shave it off with a #30 or #40 clipper blade. Don't do it yourself because you will give your pet razor burn.

try a product called oops, then bath the dog in dawn dish soap with a really good rinse. good luck

use oil (cooking), then wash the oil out of the hair.
dont forget to chant presto change-o
