Try eating several small meals/snacks during the day and limit your food intake to no carbs after 7 p.m. One thing that really helps is not to buy any junk food at the store - only buy healthy stuff. But remember anything is ok in moderation - I like to treat myself to a couple pieces of chocolate or a cookie per day otherwise I will go hogwild.

I would try mixing up the different types of foods that you eat throughout the day. For instance, eat something with a lot of protein for a meal and then something high in fiber for another meal. Make sure you aren't eating tons of empty carbs - they can be good when done right. Also, as you are driving/walking/riding home, drink a big bottle of water. You can also purge your home of all the same junk that you wouldn't take with you to work. Why's it at your house? Don't say it's for the kids - they need to eat right too. Make sure your meals at home are substantial and perhaps try making them the night before so you won't run to the first thing you see, like chips or whatever. Good luck with your endeavors. And if you find your weight getting to be out of control, don't be afraid to look for help in a place like Weight Watchers, they can help you bring it back into control and teach you good habits that you can make a lifestyle of.

I feel your pain, I am in the processing of quitting right now.

I use the patch so I still get a bit of nicotine which I think helps. I also find that if I excersise, it helps bleed off some of the nervous energy that makes me want to eat. One trick I use is forcing myself to eat the right foods, for instance, try eating some tuna fish, comes in a can.. eat with a spoon, it is pure protein, wait about 30 minutes before eating anything else, maybe try eating it before you leave work so that by the time you get home your brain has processed that you have food in your stomach.

A lot of what you have, I think is the nervous energy and the habit of the hand to mouth addiiction. Killing that energy and filling yourself up with the right foods will help.

You are going down the path that most smokers take- the "eat everything in sight when I quit" path.

you are not alone.

You want the "pleasure" and the oral activity which when you take the cigs out means FOOD.

Do yourself a favor and trash any nasties in the house. If they are not there, they cannot tempt you.

Get an air popper or a microwave popping bowl or bags or fat free popcorn.

(parkay 0 cal butter spay is a good popcorn topper)

Get crunchy food that makes you chew alot.
Carrots, gum, cucumbers (they are really low cal and are good with salt)

Leave THESE in your house.

Sugar free pudding mix make with fat free / 2% milk for the sweet urge.

The oral thing will pass as you disassociate it. It will take time.

hang in there

Well,if you're really all that concerned with how much you eat, try the Atkins diet. Its where you only eat low carb foods. They are all very healthy foods and you can loose weight
Here are some of the foods on the diet::::

Meat
Popcorn
All vegetables
cheese
And much more...
just look on the back of the food product and it will tell you how many carbs are in it.

This is natural, you swich one addiction for another. If you don't kick the eating addiction you are just as week as you were with your smoking addiction. Try picking up a hobbie like knitting or painting. I probably shouldn't talk though, I am a smoker, I have quit for a few extended peroiods of time, the thiing that draws me back is drinking, they just go hand in hand : (
