Ok, so I've read alot of answers on here from Christians and Atheists both and I've got to ask something. Let me just say right now that I'm not trying to offend anyone in asking this, I'm just curious. Alot of the answers I've read from Atheists have stated that God today is portrayed by the Christians to be a hateful God, and how Christians do awful things in His name. Now my question is what has made you think that? What event, what happened to give you that opinion. There is a quote that I really like and pertains. "God is peace, like calm water. But it only takes one person to throw a stone in and make the water muddy." Just because some Christians have done bad things in the name of Christ doesn't mean He condones it. In ANY religion there are extremists that do bad things. How can you assume(and I don't mean all atheists because I know not all assume this) that just because some Christians do bad things that all do? What makes you think God, or Christians are hateful?

Ok, I'll be the first to admit that there are Christians out there who give God a bad name by what they do. I have switched churches many times due to all the hypocrisy I've found. But just because some Christians bash anyone who doesn't believe as they, doesn't mean that all are like that. There are extremists in ANY religion. And you can't judge God by what a few bad Christians have done. If you've read the Bible, then you will see that God is a loving God, so loving that He sent His only Son just so you could be with Him in heaven. Why judge them all by what a few have done?

I'm not atheist. I see the Christian's version of God this way, because that is how the Bible portrays him. Very similar to the Greek gods/goddesses who get irritated and then strike down with vengence upon those who have angered them (and even some innocent ones who had nothing to do with it.)

Have you read the Bible, God isn't all that nice. Followers are a mirror of their leader. A leader who is tyrannical and leads with violence, and punishment has followers who are violent. A leader who leads with love and compassion has followers who act with love and compassion. If we take Christianity at its face (believe what they say about themselves and their God), then what God is proud of appears in his Holy Book, and it isn't pretty. His followers have spent most of their history locked in conflict with those around them frequently ending in bloody strife. The followers of Christ even war among themselves over who is more right. That's why, the actions of history and the present.

They're probably referring to people who use the bible to spread hate (biggots). I understand where your coming from, though.

I will say this: the God of the Old Testament was a badass... seriously.

i think it's rather silly to pretend that you kow god and that you know what god thinks, simply because you chose one cult to believe in and you now think it's the right cult, because you cannot stand the thought of being wrong.

and then, on top of that, you ignore all the crap that christians dish out to people -- always yakking about their cult beliefs, but never living their values.

pretty self-important & narcissistic, if you ask me...and you did ask!

PS: people will claim that christianity is the most "attacked" of all the cults out there today. well, go figure...it's the one dishing out the most hate -- then they sit around and whine, wondering why they get so much back. it's called KARMA.

Some look at the actions at the most outrageous Christians and stereotype the others.

good question, and please note: out of all the many religions out there the most attacked is Christianity.
not everyone who "claims" to be a Christain really is one so don't judge all by some bad experience with self proclaimed Christan.
good motto: Christains aren't perfect just forgivin
