I have a freind who seems to get upset and avoids me if I don't share her beliefs. She wants to help me find a good man to date and seems to think if I don't agree with her idea, that I am ungreatful for her help. I feel very misunderstood but would like to clear tis matter up I think friends should be able to support each other . I have been picky because I have kids involved and woulld like to be sure about the type of man should be in their lives. I guess it feels like I am being made to feel like an unthankful person. I could use some feedback on how to effectively talk to her without sounding ungreatful.

No, friends should not get angry if you do not take their advice. This is one of my pet peeves. You are my friend, this is my life. As my friend you should give me your advice, but support me in my decisions b/c as my friend you should know that I am going to do what I feel is best for me, even if that is not what you think is best for me. Hence this is my life.

You are not unthankful, but you have to look after you and your kids. Tell her that.

No they shouldn't, and tell her you are greatful, but that you don't always agree. You have to do what feels right for you, no matter what. Of course if you don't take a friend's advice and regret it later they DO have a right to say 'I told you so'. So even if you don't take their advice it is good to give it alot of consideration. Especially if it is a good friend, and REALLY especially if it is a friend that has known you forever and knows you really well. Some people ( like me for example) LOVE to say 'I told you so' and you may never hear the end of it. I know I am still saying I told you so for stuff that happened when I was a child...

first of all, you technically don't HAVE to follow an advice. an advice is like a suggestion or an opinion. which means you don't have to believe or follow it. it's the other person's belief.

how to effectively talk to her.. just tell her what you told us.. tell her why you have been so picky and what you are looking for in a person that you want to date... if she truly is your friend, she'll understand.

good luck!

no they shouldnt get angry because part of a friendship is usually when you are different from your friend. thats a good thing. you both shouldn't feel the same about every situation. it is kinda ridiculous how friends get mad at you if you dont agree with them 100% of the time...but dont worry about it. your friend will forget about it soon and it will all be in the past. trust me. it will all work itself out. i know from experience. :)

no, because they have to understand that people have their own minds and hearts to follow. if you have your heart set on something, all the advice in the world isnt going to stop you from doing what you want to do.

next time the subject comes up tell her you appreciate and respect her opinion, and value her friendship. But you just don't share the same opinion.

all you have to do is be honest with her, and tell her thank you for your advice and I will think about it. but any decision you make has to be yours and no one Else's. and if she gets mad. let her, all you have to worry about is you and your children. good luck.
