I understand eating meat, and in particular cows meat is a bad deed for followers of the various Hindu canon. In times past a Hindu could offer to Kali in order to eat meat, and there are many people who eat meat but are undoubtably holy men.
If the cow did have the protection of Krishna (or Brahma et al) then this will find you anyway. So you should not worry about it too much.
Your own failing (assuming you accept the Hindu techings) is bad only as a symptom of a lack of self-control and spiritual wealth. Hence you should pray if you are to reinvigorate this, since such an activity is never futile.

Yes. someone can pray after killing and eating cow's flesh to ask for forgiveness from God. He/she can get it provided he/she will never do it again. The more prayers one will offer as penance more and more he will be forgiven. But the sin of killing will continue even in one's next birth.

hi friend nice question. I am a totally pure vegetarian. It used to come to my mind often that all non vegetarians are non religious. Even when they are praying its all fake. But gradually I have come to terms with life. Its all based on beliefs. There are different people with different beliefs and faiths. Different religions are groups of different faiths and beliefs. So it has got nothing to do with HUMANITY or being religious. On the other hand, if everyone will become vegetarian, then the prices of pulses, wheat, rice , vegetables will soar up very very high. And also the population of animals will tremendously increase. So its like a balance which God himself has created. He has made some animals herbivorous, some carnivorous … just in order to provide a natural ecological balance.

Can someone pray after committing any kind of sin? I think so. In the Christian faith, forgiveness is paramount and offered through the deity of Jesus Christ. I know that if Hinduism is the benevolent religion it claims to be then there should be room for falling short of perfection in that religion. Just don't make a habit of it. Think of Chic Filet. It's a great place to eat and better for you too!

In Genesis, it says that God gave us rule over all the animals. Since I buy m beef in either a supermarket or US Navy commissary, I don't kill the cow. I do pray before eating it, though. MMMM BUBBA BURGERS!

m..........................I think this question should be asked to a Brahmin?
even this question is not suited for todays hindus.
But if you are a real animal lover; you could nt even eat or pray; thats the real thing ! This is damn sure as Iam both a animal lover and a vegertarian.
You become an atheist , if the slaughtering houses have glass panes.

These are mainly religious "Pre-Slaughter" practises.
Few thing are understood in general.
They are:
Asking for forgiveness for taking life to sustain the life.
Thanking for providing the sustenance.
Forgiveness for killing.
Blessings are given and requested or both.
Muslims call it "ha-lla".
Jews call it "Coarser".
All others have some ritual/ceremony/blessing/festival before crop's harvest.
Every one Kills, or destroys, animal or plant, grain(seed) in order to sustain themselves.
Muslim .... eat and pray.
Hindu ....... pray and eat.
Parsi ........ pray eat and eat and pray.
All do the same thing they ask for forgiveness, blessings and give thanks......
