My 2 year old has had a fever of 101.9 for 2 hours. An hour ago I gave him some fever reducer. Now It's 101.1. I took him to the Doctor today and they said that he had bronchitis. Should i wait longer for the medicine to kick in? I don't want to give him any more medicine to overdose him. What should I do?

NO, I would definitely WAIT.. sometimes it takes up to 2 hours to get full effects. Fever under 102 is not dangerous to a 2 yr old. The fever is trying to fight off the sickness. I'm sure you probably know this, but in case you don't...
You can alternate Motrin and Tylenol every 3 hours. So, if you gave motrin an hour ago, give him tylenol in 2 hours. Sometimes they really need the alternation, other times I can give mine one of the meds, and it keeps the fever reduced. Just be careful not to overdose the acetaminophen (tylenol). Good luck. I know how it is. I have 2 young ones. They have both had there share of sickness and fevers. The fever will probably make him sleepy. My kids fevers seem to spike when they sleep. (I have no idea why). Keep a close eye through the night, so that it doesn't get too high.

**Important.. If your son is lethargic (hard to wake up) not eating or drinking, having difficulty breathing, etc.. After the fever is down, I would consult a doctor.**

Alternate Tylenol and Motrin...that will help bring the fever down. Call the pediatrician if you're worried, but I can tell you that if you call the ER they will not answer a medical question over the phone because of liability issues. It sounds like the fever is coming down. As long as you're following the dosing instructions you wont overdose the baby. If you just gave him the medicine an hour ago I would wait until morning unless the fever or his symptoms get worse.

I would call your child's pediatrician. Most offices have an on call doctor who could speak with you or at least a nurse line to answer your questions.

If you can't reach anyone at the doctors office, call your local ER and speak with a nurse there. If you are really concerned, then take him in. Better safe then sorry.

I would say that 101.1 is not overly alarming. He did see the doctor today (and I am assuming they did a blood test?) so he should be fine. Fevers normally spike at night. Keep giving him a fever reducer, lay a cold cloth on his head. Hopefully his fever will break and by morning he will be feeling better.

Remember- a fever is the body fighting off an infection!!

Try alternating ibuprofen with acetamenaphen, usually The Ibu will be more affective If you gave the child acetamenaphen 3 hours ago I think you should give him the Ibupr, now. Thats how I do it with my children and what has been suggested to me. 101 really isnt a high fever and he needs to run a fever it means his body is fighting it. I have actually allowed my son to run 101 without fever reducer just because I kept a good eye on it if it elevates any more then Id dose him and if it keeps getting higher he needs to take a reducer. If it climbs higher then go to the Er. If it lowers even by a degree then it still is working.

dont give any more medicine until the correct time has passed. You can alternate tylenol and ibuprofen though, and a bath in tepid water, however take him out if he starts to shiver, as that can actually cause the fever to rise. If in a few hours he doesnt seem to be any better,or his fever goes way up take him in, but if he seems ok you can call and speak to a dr and maybe they can tell you more things to do for him. Also, dress him in lighter clothing, dont let him run around to much, and try to get him to drink plenty of fluids, and rest. Hope he feels better soon.

Get a Kool Patch for his forehead. It takes a few hours for meds to kick in. Is he on Tylenol as well as Antibiotics? He should be for the fever. If he still has a fever after you get the patch and he has wore it for an hour then call the ER. Good luck. We just went thru this last month.

You don't need to go to the emergency room.
You have already taken him to the doctor and he is on medication. You need to give it at least a week and see if it is getting better.
A temp. of 101.9 is nothing to be concerned about. If it got to be 105 then you should take him to the emergency room.
Just keep giving him Tylenol for the fever.
If your real concerned, take him back to the doctors for a check up.
Just be patient and wait a week to see if he is getting better.
I know it's hard seeing your baby so miserable.
Just give it time.
Good luck.

Did the doctor put him on medication? What was his temp when he was at the doc's office? If he had a temp about the same at the office, and he is taking medicine for his bronchitis, I don't believe you need to go to the E.R. Put him in the tub with tepid (not cold) water for about 20 min at a time every 2 to 3 hrs. Keep a cool cloth on his forehead. Get him to drink fluids. Wipe his body every few min with a cool cloth. You can alternate baby tylenol and baby advil every 4 hrs. They work in different ways. Read the labels carefully for the correct dose.

My signal to go to the ER is when my child is not eating or is just sitting there or laying there not doing any activity. This tells me she is not well. If the child is eating, drinking and using the bathroom fine then I would wait a little while. All the ER will say is to give him a fever reducer.

101 is not that dangerous a temp for a child. An elevated temperature is the body's method for killing the germs and bacteria that are making it ill. If it goes higher than 103 get the doctor on the phone, even if it's late. But the fever is killing germs, as long as it doesn't get dangerously high.
