It depends on the base. Sometimes they have a contrator do the mowing and you just do weeding. Sometimes you are stuck at with it all.

At our last duty station, the privatized housing management company took care of the lawn, even inside our fence. I was just responsible for making sure there was no pet waste in the yard and my dogs were inside. The downside to that was that if it rained even a little on the lawn day, they skipped it altogether. This was Ft Polk, Louisiana - where it rained almost every day. It would sometimes be a month before they got to it.
Where we are now, you have to maintain your lawn for 50 ft from your house in every direction, even if its not in your fence. They ticket you $40+ for each time they notice your lawn hasn't been mowed. (We live off post though, so this is just what I was told by a friend who was 9 months pregnant and getting ticketed for not mowing her lawn while hubby was deployed.)
Like someone else said, the waiting list may be so long (or the housing so horrible) that you end up living off post, in which case you may want all your lawn equipment. I definitely wouldn't get rid of anything. Even if you get to a place where they do the lawn for you, your next duty station may not be the same way.

It totally depends on where you get stationed. Some bases you are responsible for your total lawn care and others hire services. Even if you have lawn service you are still responsible for maintaining any damage or packages your pet leaves on the lawn before the lawn care people will touch your yard. And you may want to keep the basics on hand because the lawn care schedule isn't always set in stone. If you want your yard to look the best it can you may need to do it more often.

You are responsible for your lawn maintenance, but most posts have a "lending shed" where you borrow lawn tools from them give it back to them when you are done. Some posts are very specific on how it has to look and how well kept it has to be, I personally like off post housing, get away from the army world as much as you can and do your maintenance on your own time.

Whether or not you need to downsize depends on how much equipment you have. Where we live, landscapers take care of "common" areas, and that includes mowing and landscaping the front lawns and in between the houses.
We have to take care of our fenced in back yard, but I think I could probably take a pair of scissors and get it done as fast as a lawn mower will do it. Unless you are the CG you probably will not have much of a yard. We do have a lawn mower, a rake, and a few smaller yard tools, but we dont ever use them. A weed wacker gets the yard done.
If I were you I would keep it all. You usually get plenty of storage in post housing so just set it and forget it. Good luck to you and your family!

You are responsible for the lawn maintenance as long as the house is in your name. Once foreclosure has taken place, and the property is held by the bank, it is their responsibility to maintain the lawn and anything else.

It completely depends on the type of housing. Normally only officers get an actual house where yes, they do their own lawn maintenance. Most others get apartments where no, you are not responsible for the lawns...

You take care of your own lawn and if you dont they ticket you... you also may want to think about the large waiting list for on post housing in most areas before you start getting rid of everything.. Most families wait from 3-12 months depending on how big of a family you have to get on post living.. good luck tho

If your housing has a lawn...many don't...then yes. Part of the duty assigned with being assigned on base housing.

If you get stationed in Twenty Nine Palms you will have no lawn maintenance at all. You will just have to rake nice straight lines in your sand every week!
