Army reception is pretty boring as I bet USMC is as well. You will get a haircut, uniforms, shots and all sort of other fun activities. You will probably be weighed and measured. You Will be glad to get to your unit and get training I can assure you. If I remember right I was in reception maybe 4-5 days including the weekend.

Yeah, I would say that all the above answers are pretty much accurate. I hated reception, because the Drill Sergeants there didn't give a crap about you. I found out later that reception is where all the $h!tbag Drill Sergeants go after they get booted from their regular training battalion. Expect to be there anywhere from 4-7 days while you get shots, uniforms, and some basic military classes. Also, don't bring anything like a nice pocket knife that you would want to keep. They make you put it in an amnesty box, or hand it over to them for "safekeeping." One of my real Drill Sergeants had to go over and raise hell at reception after I graduated to get my knife back, which I signed over to a Drill Sgt. there but he said said that they had "lost" it.
The best advice I can give you is to keep you head, stay sane, and remember it is all a head game. All they can do (barring a major misconduct on your part) is make you exercise until your muscles won't move anymore. Just do what you are told, and show a warrior attitude, your life will be much better, trust me.

Reception was uh... something else. In the Army you do not sleep the first two days. It lasted a week, 7 days, and it is not counted as time towards basic. And in reception you are lower than low, because you haven't even been to basic yet. You will get all your shots and other medical related things taken care of so they don't have to do it during your training. Stay awake! Do not get caught falling asleep.

It all really depends on the reception that you go to. They all have different schedules, but you get pretty much all the same things taken care of.
Generally, you will be woken up very early in the morning and meet outside for a formation and check for accountability. Then you will all march or walk to chow. You can expect to be yelled at by the Drill Sgt.'s, but not nearly as much as you would during basic.
After chow you will stand in line or sit around all day going from basically station to station, doing the things that need to get taken care of before you get to your basic unit (haircuts, uniform issuance, shots, etc).
Between 11 or noon, you will get to each lunch, and then it is back to waiting in line all day. It really feels like you have really gotten nothing accomplished by the end of the day. This is where you really learn the phrase "Hurry up and wait".
After dinner chow it is usually back to the barracks to use the phone or do whatever until lights out, and at night someone will have to be on "fire watch" at all times of the night, but you switch with someone every hour.
Each day will be pretty much the same, and just like someone else said, you are ready to get to your basic unit. It can be fun though.
Oh I have to mention, it is booooorrring.....
