I guess this is a psychology question (or maybe just a parenting question), but i have a nephew who is growing out of the toddler phase. I see him about once every two to three weeks, and he seems to keep forgetting who i am. Whenever i first see him, I try to go and pick him up or hug him, but he just runs away from me to hide behind his parents like he doesn't know me. Is this normal? Oh, and he's about 2 and half years old.

At that age, they are going through an independence phase- while they want to assert their independence from Mommy and Daddy, they still have separation anxieties. Children at that age are often shy around people who are not regular, daily caretakers.

This is very normal for a 2 1/2 year old. Next time you see him wait a little while and he will come to you. Probably with kisses and hugs.

Maybe he remembers you, but isn't used to you. When children his age is used to seeing someone on a dailly basis they are fine when they see you everyday. But when they only see you once in a while they seem to shy away at first.

Yes it is normal. You have to play with him and make it a fun day for him to remember you.Sorry, kids only remember people who are fun for them.He could be remembering you, maybe he is just shy, like my son and it takes some time for them to open up.

Don't approach him. You are overwhelming him. Just say hi and then sit back and let him get comfortable with you. He remembers you but it is still overwhelming when you approach him like that. Let him do the coming to you.

I think thats normal, its not that he doesn't remember you your just not around long enough for him not to be shy at that age.
He'll get better as he gets older.
