An average mp3 file should be anywhere between 4 to 8MBs, depending on the length of the song, and 125 to 198 Kbps bit rates, depending on the quality. If the file is unusually large i.e. a 20MB mp3 file for a 3 minute song then you know something's not right. If you try previewing the song and it doesn't play or makes strange sounds no matter how many times you click on it I'd just cancel that download and find another one.

You can't actually tell which song has a virus by hearing it. Mac is a unix based system which makes it almost impossible to get any viruses. Most mac users don't even buy a virus protection because is not really needed. If you are using limewire in a pc you can get a lot of viruses though. In a PC is easier to get viruses.

I heard that too. I have been running Limewire on my pc for about3 years now and my antivirus program has caught them all. Nothing more than what I get in my emails. Not a big deal. So I think it is more talk, don't you?
You also could try another P2P called KCeasy.

Centurion Tech makes a program called "DriveShield" that allows you to PROTECT your hard drive in such a way that when you restart your computer, it is 100% restored to the way it was when you enabled the protection.
It's very technical but has protected multiple computers that I've had (and that friends have had) for the last 3 years. I don't know what I'd do without it!

there is no real way to tell for sure, but if you're downloading a song, a rule of thumb is for every minute the song is, there should be in the ballpark of a thousand kilobytes. 4 min song= between 4 and 5 thou. kb's. don't download media files when looking for an mp3, those are spywares and no music

any peer to peer programs are going to have virus's. there are alot of jerks out there that think it is fun to do this. the way to tell, is to look at the size of the file and compare to the rest of the same files. also, you can right click on a file and down the list it says advanced then look-up bitzi. this will tell you about the file if it is registered with the bitzi company. i use it all the time..

I've never had a problem. I downloaded LIMEwire Pro from LIMEwire itself and I have not had any issues with viruses.
