I've been living in Hawaii for over a year now and I think I'm going to kick myself in for not making an attempt at a surfing lesson. Tell me about your surfing experiences.

Surfing's great. I'd probably live in the ocean if it were possible.

Do it. Get out there. And don't be afraid of Hawaiian locals. No reason to be. Water patrol, lifeguards, and people like the Wolf Pack keep order.

Just be respectful and practice where a lot of surf schools do. There really aren't a lot of beginner's areas.

I started surfing when i was 15 now i'm 50 and I just started surfing again after a 15 year layoff-What made me start again were the all the great memories I had which I missed alot - just sitting on your board in the ocean(no waves to ride) the smell of the ocean the peacefulness and of course catching a good wave-nothing beats it. I live in north. calif and the olny thing I don't like is the clod water-so Take advantage of that nice warm H2o

Hawaii is about the best possible place you can learn to surf. Warm water, plenty of beach with slow moving gentle waves. You gotta do it.

Ask around for good beginners spots.

The locals can be less than welcoming to the noobs, and yiou'll want to make sure you stay out of their way until you get pretty good.

Ask for a beginners beach and you'll have plenty of fun.

Bonus - there will be lots of girls learning out there too.

I tired, I took lessons with my grandfather who was an amature surfer who owned a gym...

He tried to teach me, but my ability could not keep up with his expectations...

But, growing up in Cali... I can tell you that surfing is Awesome, even fun to try and learn... in learning even the falls were fun for me...

If you like the beach, and dont mind the taste of salt... surfing is for you...
