That is an old term my great grandparents used to use. I asked them when I was little what it meant. It just means to date someone. That's all. To try to win someone's heart by wooing them. Flirting and such.
A guy would try to woo a young lady by bringing her flowers and candy. Dating back then was more like sitting in a parlour at home and holding hands. That was their way of dating most of the time.

To woo at one time referred to a man 'courting' a woman with the intent of marrying her. He would actively pay attention to her by visiting, getting to know her and her family, buying her gifts and favors, writing to her, etc in the hopes of 'gaining her affections' and eventually 'winning her hand in marriage'. Translate that into today's world and you will still find men and women who treat each other with such respect, although in more up to date ways. Merriam Webster Dictionary - Woo: to seek to gain or to bring about; to solicit or entreat, especially with importunity; to 'sue' (look that up) for the affection of and usually marriage with ; to court.
