Bacon has been known for a very long time as being pork. The belly of the pig. Smoked and sliced to verious thicknesses. But you can find turkey bacon, some brands are ok and some are just krap. Beware.

That's a true statement. I eat turkey bacon all the time, it contains NO PORK! It's difficult to cook in a pan though, try baking it at 325 for about a half hour, it will crisp up nicely this way and cook evenly. It is sooo much better for you then regular bacon.

True bacon is ALWAYS pork. Other artificial products like "turkey bacon" are white and dark turkey meat (?) pressed together to look like bacon and then get infused with chemicals no one can pronounce to make it taste like bacon. You can also get a soy product that is even worse than turkey bacon.

Bacon is technically and traditionally pork. But I swear I've seen turkey bacon before.

No, bacon is pork, unless otherwise stated. there are several different types of bacon though, and it comes from the side, back and belly of the pig. bacon is pork, though, it can be prepared from other animals and called turkey bacon, or beef bacon etc.

True, "bacon" does NOT necessarily automatically mean pork - I particulary like turkey bacon - similar taste but almost no fat and a fraction of the calories...

I love bacon....beef bacon. It's so much better than pork bacon and turkey bacon is just the plastic imitation of bacon. You won't find it everywhere, in fact you may have to request it from your supermarket's service desk, but it is great.
So "no, bacon is not necessarily pork." Unless you've never been outside of hicksville, that is!

I've had deer bacon before, it's the way it's prepared I guess, not just the cut or the animal.
