And is ATHEISM based on THOUGHTS alone, that may or may not then result in FEELINGS?

Faith is based on nothing other than conviction and the perpetuation of faith through teaching, atheism is based on evidence and reality.

True faith is a form of Knowing.
When you wake up in the morning, you know that when you place your feet on the bedroom floor, that the floor is going to be there, and hold and support you. If you had just the tiniest doubt about the solidity of the floor, you would fall right through it.
It is as small as that.
It is the sort of thing the Christ was attempting to say in Mathew 17:20
I can't say for sure what motivates athiests, if they are truly ready to release earthly ideas about God, and return to the wholeness, or if something happened along the way that they felt abandoned by God, or felt thier prayers went unheard if they didn't get the answer they wanted, or were looking for, or if they felt abandoned at a critical time, and felt that God allowed something awful to happen to them, and they wonder if there is a God, how could God possibly allow such a thing, that a God who truly loved them would not do such a thing, so God must not really exist. If this is so, then I would put it to you that Atheism is really based on feelings more than thoughts.
Whatever the situation is, they ask for proof.
However it came about, doubt came in and destroyed faith in thier lives. "Doubt" is a feeling, too.
They fell through the floor.
One thing I don't believe, is that Athiests are all about science, and logic, I believe in God, but I also believe that Darwin is correct. I love science. I have no problem reconciling the two, and honestly don't understand why others do.
You don't ask the floor for proof of it's existence when you get up in the morning, you just know it is there to catch you.
Faith is knowing, without proof.

Both categories are based on polling an internal feeling of 'what makes sense to me'. The person of faith feels that a higher power makes complete sense and things can be no other way. The atheist, when he/she looks inward, finds no feeling of a higher power in any spiritual sense, so the 'no god' idea makes more sense.

You would be better off thinking of it like a taste for asparagus. One person likes it and the next doesn't. All this comes before the arguments brought up to support whatever the internal poll has already decided. We first feel that one way or the other makes more sense and then we start to gather reasons why we are right.

Cognitive psychology has done a great deal of research on this in all sorts of areas and it seems to hold true for most of what we 'believe' in.

Feelings indicate an emotional response to something within ourselves. Thoughts are also a response to something within ourselves. Faith on the other hand is a (if I can use the term broadly) a sixth sense that God's spirit is present within us.

Atheism is for people who do not have the courage to open their hearts to God. It takes a lot of guts to open yourself up to something that you can not see...and that doesn't make logical sense. I know because I fought that battle for a long time. I am not trying to convince you of anything...I know it does no good if you don't believe...and if you do believe..then it is not needed. God simply is. Oh and by the way, just so someone else does not make the comment that God is for dummies...I have an IQ in the150 range and am one of the most logical people I know. It was as I said...a battle but Praise the Lord...God won.

Atheism is not a feeling, rather it is observing the world around us through scientific and historical studies, and realizing that a deity is very improbable. Atheism is just a lack of belief in religion and deities. When one looks at religion, and then looks at biology, astronomy, physics (and the laws thereof), and other scientific disciplines, one sees that they do not agree. Atheism is simply a lack of belief until proven otherwise. Let's say that you are a Christian. As far as Buddha, Muhammad, Vishnu, Osiris, Venus, Dianna, or whoever is concerned, you are an atheist because you do not believe in them.

Faith is not based on feelings, in fact feelings are the opposite of faith. Faith is based entirely on the facts of the Word of God. Athiesm is based on faith in human reason.

Faith is trust and belief. A belief by definition isn't a feeling, and trust is usually an evaluation or giving the benefit of the doubt.

atheism is based on thoughts yes, but only half of which should be considered. you'll notice an atheist will never admit there is evidence for creationism.

Faith is faith. If faith were based on feelings then were would be no point on faith. Faith is the evidence of things not seen. And feelings are partly seen and felt.

I cannot speak for atheist, but as a "Christian"...

Faith rarely starts with a feeling. It is usually found first and most often in our hardest times. That means our feelings at the beginning are not great, often, not hopeful. As we grow in our faith we began to realize that deliberate and active thoughts bring our faith to the helm, and then feelings evolve from there...

I do not feel the need to justify faith. Not to you or me.

Faith is belief not based on logical proof or evidence. You either have faith or you don't

Atheism is based on those two things. Now you see why we can't really get along. One side says believe the other side says where's the proof.
