4But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

5For every man shall bear his own burden.

By vicarious atonement I assume you mean that the work has already been done by Christ. This is true. Atonement covers sin. According to Revelations 20:12 all were judged by their works. Many have a view that saying a prayer puts you under the law of grace (my sins are covered). A life in Christ is a life of obedience. Jesus said, "and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me." Matt.10:38. Paul says, "I crucify my flesh daily." We have a part to fulfill if we are to be saved. Phil. 2:12 ....continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. We must be a vessel, an instrument in his hands to be used by Him. If we are not living in accordance to His word and will then we must ask ourselves, do we really belong to Him. The atonement of Christ is to restore us back to a Holy God. What good is atonement if we continue to live as before. Eph. 4:22 ....put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Prove your work. Every tree bears fruit. What is yours? Vicarious atonemment is for those who choose to walk in it, it's not something you get once and then go on about your buisness.

Vicarious Atonement is the theory of the atonement which states that Christ's death was "legal." It satisfied the legal justice of God. Jesus bore the penalty of sin when he died on the cross. His death was a substitution for the believers. In other words, he substituted himself for them upon the cross. Jesus hung in our place as He bore our sin in his body on the cross. See 1 Pet. 2:24.

Their has to be a relationship before their can be conflict.

I am not sure I see the relation between "atonement" and "burdens".

We dont need atonement for "bearing our burdens", and proving our work is not sinful.

I am not sure I have answered the question, neither am i sure u asked one???

The fact that we are responsible for and will be held accountable for our own actions does not negate the doctrine of atonement in which Christ took upon himself our sins when he died on the cross.

No, it's not a conflict. We must bear our burdens (consequences of our actions ) but we are not justified (saved) by doing so.

It is saying basically the same thing as this:
Rom 13:5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
Rom 13:6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
Rom 13:7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.
Rom 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
Rom 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Rom 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
Rom 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
Rom 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
Rom 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.

It is all a matter of interpretation as I have said dozens of times before regarding scripture. Some believe that others can help you...some do not.
