How do you use a sea salt soak to heal nose piercings?

For my nostil piercings, I just filled a bowl with the solution, held my nose in it and breathed through my mouth. It felt weird, like I was going to sneeze, but if it was bothersome, I just sat up and rinsed off my nose and repeated the soak. It cleaned both inside and out all at once, so it was easier for me

Another thing you can do it get a spray bottle and put the solution in the bottle, spray on the area for about a minute and dab the area with clean paper towel.

There is a solution called H2Ocean (which is essentially saline in a spray bottle), but you can make the same thing a lot cheaper by getting your own non iodized sea salt and taking 10 minutes to make the solution.

Do not use Bactine, Neosproin, rubbing alcohol, peroxide and other harsh cleaners. They work for some but for most they dry out and irritate piercings, slowing healing time as well. Do not use cotton balls or cotton swabs/q-tips to clean the area, the small cotton fibers could get stuck inside the piercing and cause irritation (while I've never had that problem, I know people who have)

Sea Salt Soak Nose Piercing

Do NOT use Neosporin, alcohol, peroxide, etc. Do NOT use gauze, cotton balls, Q-tips, etc. The first group just irritates it, dries it out, and works against the healing process. The second group is bad because the fibers can get stuck on your piercing and just act like a sponge, trapping bacteria. Instead go with the sea salt soaks (or the H20 Ocean spray which is also great). If you must dry it off, get a clean paper towel and blot dry gently.

The best way for a nose piercing and sea salt soaks is with a shot glass or a disposable Dixie cup. If that seems like too much work, the H20 Ocean Spray is just as effective and you won't have to sit around for 10 minutes with your nose in a cup. :)

In a sea salt soak, make sure to get it non-iodized, otherwise, you're just gonna irritate the piercing.

"To soak your piercing, invert a disposable cup (or shot glass) of water over the piercing and soak for 5-10 minutes. When finished soaking, it is extremely important to rinse piercing with a brand new Q-tip and cold water to remove discharge both on and around piercing and jewelry.

You can also make hot compresses with disposable paper towels or cotton balls for difficult soaking sites (i.e. inner ear or nostril piercings). DO NOT use washcloths."

As a licensed skin care therapist I would not use sea salt soak to heal a nose piercing. That would be extremely painful- think rubbing salt on a paper cut. To help the piercing heal I would recommend using a healing, antibacterial type of ointment, perhaps "neosporin."

The optimal way to care for ur piercing is to clean it twice daily. The easiest way to clean ur piercing is during or immediately following a shower.Sea salt soaks-Fill a fresh disposable cup cup w/ aprrox. 8 ounces of water and 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt, stirring til its dissolved. then pre-soak a fresh tissue, cotton ball, or swab into the solution and firmly press it on your piercing. In order to promote effectiveness, the 1st soak should last 10min. Additional soaks should be at least 5-10 minutes. Oh and beleive me it will NOT burn.

please don listen to CIAO!!! do not use ANY ointments on your nose! and sea salt soaks do feel nice! and it doesn burn unless you make the solution wrong.. using ointments will attract dirt and grime to your piercing.. possible drawing it in.. also its locking the holes so the lymph (discharge) cannot escape... this is why you will be getting "crusties"

neosporin is to heal small cuts.. not piercings..

sea salt soaks help fight infetions, aid in the healing process, and the warm water draws otu the lyph. and cleans your piercing. and loosens though gross crusties! but the best thing to do really is stick your nose in a cup... using cotton of gauze could leave lint around.. and coupld cause tyou problems.. stick your nose in a cup and breather through your mouth!

but they do not sting... what i do is I take a 16 oz. water bottle and empty it, fill it with distilled water then put 2, 1/4 teaspoons of non iodized sea salt. shake it up and its ready whenever i need it

you are supposed to mix 14 teaspoon for every 8 oz. of water.. and sea salt soaks do not burn!

good luck!

DON'T use neosporin!! bactine or green soap are great for cleaning. sea salt (at least in my own experience) dried out my piercings. it's better than nothing, though.

it's important that your piercing not dry out, but be able to breathe, and neosporin doesn't allow for that.

i've been told, also, that liquid silver is good for piercings as it's a natural antibiotic, but i have never tried it.

when i got my nose pierced, i soaked a paper towel in the mixture and then stuck it up my nose. i took another towel, soaked it, and placed it on the outside.

i have no patience for this though, so i rarely did it. as long as you don't mess with your piercing and clean it in the shower, you'll be fine.

to get the boogers out, i used a cotton swab and swirled it around the nose jewelry. HAHAHA. trust me, if you don't have 'em yet, you'll get some boogies!

good luck!

Well I havent heard of that but the place that pierced mine told me to buy some stuff called H2ocean spray or try contact solution considering it has salt water in it.....but one thing they did tell was not to use peroxide or alcohol on it!! My nose ring was infected and I used the H2ocean spray and regular hot water with salt in it and it healed up good and I have had no problem since then!!

Bactine solution is awesome for healing piercings. That is what I used on my naval piercing. I was told to use an ointment by the piercing technician who was dead wrong and it got sooooo infected. I then started to use peroxide and alcohol ( not at the same time) but then found out by a doctor that they can promote scarring. The doctor told me to use the bactine and all infection cleared up wonderfully and it healed quickly after that so I am sticking with bactine for any future piercings.
